- MJG replies to Dro| 2 repliesThe MoneyGram is the same as cash UNTRACEABLE!! The first poster stated they refused to give company information - illegal!
It is also illegal to make threats (arrest, jail, etc.) should that happen. - DRO replies to MJG| 1 replyI asked these [***] for the name of the company which I supposedly scammed... NO STRAIGHT ANSWER... I asked them for receipts of payments made to that company... NO STRAIGHT ANSWER... I asked how much I OWED... STRAIGHT ANSWER.. and they want it MONEYGRAM!! WTF!! Where is your website? What email did they send me any correspondence? They told me that I was going to be prosecuted, but NEVER told me for what company and what I never paid... - ashleyCall me saying a graduate case is being sent to the county I live in and for me or my lawyer to give them a call for options before pretrial. Wtf. Stop calling me.
- MJG replies to DROEmails, phone calls, texts, & faxes are NOT official notification of anything!
Tell them you want WRITTEN documentation of the ""debt"" that is MAILED to you. It - per the FDCPA- must give their company name & address, the original creditor information., amounts due, dates, etc. They then have 5 days to comply. Of course, don't expect anything. That would lead a paper trail back to them - and they want to stay in the shadows. Contact the Georgia attorney general's office too. - AnonymousCalled saying they have sent legal documentation to my home and haven't heard a response...I haven't received anything! They say to have my attorney contact them. The only name I could get was Deborah Jones.
- Caller: Scam?
- AmandaDebra Jones they call from several different numbers
- Caller: Scam

- Caller: legal mediation
- AnonymousDebra Jones surely gets around (gotta love robocalls that actually sound like real people). Wants me to call her back at 678-752-7531 which, when you Google it, leads to no true listing or actual company. I won't be holding my breath for my "legal complications" to be processed. And if they want to try--BRING IT!!!
- Caller: Scammer -- None Given
- JK| 1 replyI received a voicemail message from 678-712-4059 today at 10:53 am. Caller id said 'Covington, GA.' Woman identified herself as Debra Jones stated there was a case involving my name and ssn, that legal documents were sent to my home and there was no response, that this was a last effort to contact me before legal complications. I should contact 678-752-7538. No case number was referenced.
- Katia replies to AnaOnly one time i called back and asked who it was because they kept calling me and they hung up quick but 10 minutes later they called me from a different number. So stupid!
- red replies to JKI received a call from a Michael somebody could barely understand but says documents have been sent to my address but no response I need to call immediately because of time sensitive matter but funny I haven't received anything and if it is about a pay day loan I have paid back from 3 years ago to three different co. Because if threats they scare you but no more they are scammers because very few weeks they change numbers and voices don't answer don't give any info out if they had something they would send a bill to begin with
- Brenda| 1 replyI received two voice mails stating my name and SSN was linked to a fraudulent claim and either myself or my attorney needed to call them asap. I called and was told I owed $400 in payday loans to a company called "infinity financial" or something similar to that name. If I did not pay by 5pm, there would be an arrest warrant sent to the county I reside in. When I told him I had no idea what he was talking about he hung up. I called back immediately and he pretended not to know who I was. When I asked what I could do, he said I needed to pay $863.57 by 5pm. When I told him I didn't have that much, he dropped it to 347.06 and said he needed that by 5pm and they would give me 30 days to pay the rest. I hung up and called a friend that used to be managerat cash express and found out it was a scam.

- amanda| 1 replyI keep getting calls from a micheal thompson saying he is from a legal mediation group calling about fraudulent charges being brought up against me. For me or my lawyer to contact them as soon as possible to resolve the issue. He said that documentation has been sent to the home and county that i reside in. Its been almost 2 weeks since i started getting these calls and have yet to recieve anything. The last time he called me his accent changed to a more southern drawl. They never say my name or who they are trying to contact.
- Caller: legal mediation group
- Call type: Debt collector
- Alfalfa replies to amandaHow can I verify whether or not a debt collector is legitimate?
Here are a few warning signs that could signal a debt collection scam:
The debt collector threatens you. Legitimate debt collectors probably won't claim that they'll have you arrested or claim that they or their employees are law enforcement officers.
The debt collector refuses to give you information about your debt or is trying to collect a debt you do not recognize. You have certain rights to ask a debt collector to verify the debt. You can use this sample letter to request this information. Ask for an explanation in writing before you pay.
The debt collector refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number.
The debt collector asks you for sensitive personal financial information. You should never provide anyone with your personal financial information unless you are sure they're legitimate.
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his or her name, company, street address, telephone number, and professional license number. Many states require debt collectors to be licensed. Check the information the caller provides you with your state officials, or the state in which the debt collector holds a license. If the caller refuses or is unable to provide you with information about his company, or if you can’t verify the information he provides, do not give money to the caller or company.
Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." This notice must include:
The amount of the debt
The name of the creditor you owe
A description of certain rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, consider requesting this information in writing or seeking assistance before paying the debt to make sure the debt, and the company, are valid.
Tip: You can consider sending the collector a letter requesting the information by using one of the CFPB's sample letters. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB or you can contact your state Attorney General’s office.
Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know the company or person you are talking with is a real debt collector. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft such as:
Charging your existing credit cards
Opening new credit card or checking accounts
Writing fraudulent checks
Taking out loans in your name
Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
Report the call. Submit a complaint with the CFPB or get in touch with your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers.
Stop speaking with the caller. If nothing else works and you believe the calls are fraudulent, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files.
Tip: You can use this sample letter to write a letter demanding the debt collector stop contacting you. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
Tip: If you're having trouble with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB online or by calling (855) 411-CFPB (2372).
