Message says a fraud claim has been filed and my attorney should call for options.

Got a call from a steven james said a fraud claim has been filed against me. The number 678-623-4288 said l had to pay them 509.00.

Got a voicemail from Steven James from the "Fraud Division" saying that there has been a fraud claim put against my name and that either I or my attorney need to call this number back for options or it would be turned over to the "county"
Never gives a name of a company nor says to what county they would turn it over to.
I called them back and no one answered the phone.

i got a call from this guy who said I would be handed over to the county if I don't respond to him. It is nonsense, I got the exact same call as everyone else! He said there was a fraud.

I just got the same call from Steven James. He left a voicemail message. This is fraud and I will report this to the Attorney General. I would advise all others to file a complaint with the Attorney General Office in your state.

Got the same call. Left a message on my voicemail. Same as the others, left the exact same message. He did not mention company name nor the county where he said my name will be submitted. I gave the name and phone number to
the Attorney General's Office.

They called me twice, left a voicemail the second time, I called back and a rude lady answered. She would  not state her name or the business she was answering for Her ignorance was an insult to my intelligence. Please take care of this.

Got a second voicemail just now from a woman named Vanessa Downing threatening a whole lot of legal trouble but told me to call her back at 404-334-4653.  Persistent little buggers

Call from steven james saying there is a fraudulent claim against me to call him back, have left me several messages threatening to send this to the county for processing. bogus.

The BBB isn't going to do anything for you.  File a complaint with your state Office of Attorney General, Consumer Protection.

Total scam.  This "Steven James" persona has a history on 800notes of calling people up and saying the same sort of thing.  It's just an attempt to scare you into paying them something.  No debt collector can "refer" a case to any law enforcement authority.  Being in ordinary civil debt is not a crime.  Fraud is a crime and it is handled only by duly constituted law enforcement.

But as I said, being in ordinary civil debt is NOT a crime and you cannot be arrested for it.  There's no way an ordinary civil debt can be magically transformed into some sort of fraud crime.  If you were susopected of that sort of  crime then you would have already been interviewed by local law enforcement. No debt collector would have anything to do with it.  This is a total scam. Ignore and block the calls. DO NOT RETURN THE CALLS.

 Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  DIME  until the debt is validated.

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.

If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money,  tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
