- Recieved bogus call| 2 repliesI have been receiving the same calls from multiple numbers. This morning I decided to take the call to see what's up. Summer was very rude. She provided the last 4 of a SSN, a DL number & email address. She did not have a (my) name. Went on and on about fraud, litigation involving ssn, claimed to be working in conjunction w IRS and Federal Prosecutor. Repeated over and over since I was not cooperating, she had no choice to turn my case over for prosecution. Claimed it had to a loan that I inquired about online in July 2013 (which I did not). When I told her that I wanted the information in writing, she hung up on me.

- Laura Holland| 2 repliesThese people have called me several days in a row from this number claiming to be a mediator. I have talked to a man named Steven Carter and a very rude African-American lady whose name I have never gotten. They said that I owed 1750. on a payday loan from Everest. They claimed to call the prosecuting attorney and have all of the late fees dropped and I only had to pay them 510. to clear my debt. They also said that there was a warrant out for my arrest on 2 class E felony charges for check fraud. I spoke with the local sherrif's office and found that to be untrue. They woulld not stop calling me even after I told them that and that I knew that they were scammers. What scares me is that they had all of my personal information. They had to obtain it illegally. These people have to be stopped!!! There is no telling how many people have given them money out of fear in response to their intimidation tactics!!!

A debtor cannot generally be imprisoned for not paying 'non-priority debts', such as credit cards, overdrafts and loans.
Do threats or harassment by a creditor automatically make your debt a priority debt?
A debt does not become a priority debt just because a creditor threatens the debtor with imprisonment or harasses them for payment.
Harassment of debtors by creditors or their agents is in breach of the Office of Fair Trading guidelines and is a criminal offence under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
The Regulations prohibit aggressive commercial practices including aggressive tactics used by creditors to pressurise debtors into settling their debts.- Call type: Debt collector
