- shelby| 2 repliesI received this call on my cell phone early sunday morning. It was an automated system that said the were calling about my visa card and they needed to verfiy my account so type in my acct #. I did that. Then they asked for my exp date, and pin #. Which I just made up. Then they said something like thank you have a good day your account has been verified. Which alarmed me because I made up the pin #. I immediatley called visa to cancel the card and had them send me a new one. WTF
- doesnt like calls at 7am on a sundayi also got this call early on a sunday morning and i normally wouldnt pick such a strange area code but i thought it may be my insurrance company....forgeting it was sunday.they asked for me to verify my credit card information also.....i dont even own a credit card.
- Frustrated| 2 repliesI also received a call on a Sunday from this same #... was today at almost 2pm. I didn't answer the call because I was in the shower at the time. The message left on my answering machine said something to the effect of my Visa card being temporarily suspended by my bank because it's suspected that my card was accessed by a 3rd party. I tried calling the number back- and the line just rang busy, no answer. I have left a message for my bank to call me regarding this. In the meantime, I checked my online banking website and nothing appears out of the ordinary- so I'm thinking that this call may have been an attempt at a scam. I will wait to hear what my bank says tomorrow when they call me back...

- Anonym replies to Frustrated| 1 replyWe received the same type of message, today. Your description is very clear. This is a scam and I will be reporting the number the state Atty. General's office.
- moecall 4 pm from same number, exact description as above and I too entered fake information and do not have an account from Kitsap Bank!
- sashaGot this call, also, but did not talk to them. I was on another line. Tried calling back--always busy. Got call about 3 pm, EST, in WA state. Just curious--have any of you had any dealings with the big 3 credit reporting companies (Equifax, Experian, Transunion) recently? We have, as there may have been info stolen from an investment account.
- FrustratedInteresting that you said that Sasha... I accessed my free credit report last week- from Equifax! (First time I have ever done this..) Luckily, I did not enter my Debit Card info, not sure if this matters or not. I'm working with my bank on this and will let you all know what I find out. Thanks!

- FrustratedMy bank just called me back and told me that this was a FRAUD call, and that they have received several complaints regarding this particular number. One thing they did tell me was that we should NEVER give out Acct number or Card info over the phone, ever. And it is a good idea to follow up with your financial institution to make sure that everything is OK on their end.. my Debit card was NOT suspended as was suggested in the message.

- KrisAs others have said, I received same call this morning just before 9:30 "your master card from (my bank name) has been suspended because it's thought to have been accessed by a third party. Please enter your 16-digit card number to re-activate it". No way, I thought. I hung up and called the bank, gave them the info and nothing of any sort had occurred. SCAM.

- Smart CookieI got a call from the same number. It asked for my card number.. I typed in all 9s, then it asked for my expiration date and pin number, which was also made up. After I was done, it thanked me for the info. Very weird. Figured it was a scam since something like a fraudulent use of my credit card would have been placed by a real person, not automated
- Alexy replies to Anonymsame thing here called and just hung up though
- AlfalfaWatch Out For Scammers Pretending To Be Your Credit Card Company's Fraud Department
When a strange person calls you on the telephone claiming to represent a company you do business with and asks you to give them sensitive personal information, tell them that you'll call them back on the regular customer service number that you usually use to contact them.
From CBC:
Ottawa police Sgt. Mike McCormick said fraudsters are now calling customers claiming to be from the fraud department of their credit card company.
"We know as a general public that there's a lot of fraudulent activity on credit cards and debit cards, so when we start hearing ... your financial institution calling you ask you for specific information and providing information that nobody else should know, it brings down our wariness," said McCormick, who is with the organized fraud section.
He said investigators are seeing a steep increase in reports of a scam in which a caller names an unusual big-ticket item and asks if the customer has recently purchased it.
When the customer says no, the caller says the company involved has been cropping up in a lot of suspicious transactions.
The caller provides a reference number for the customer's file and give the customer a 1-800 number to call.
He or she also asks the customer to confirm that they still have the card by providing the three-digit security code marked on the back.
Fraud investigators say no legitimate credit card company will ask you for that code.
McCormick said the fraudster typically already has your address and credit card number, usually from dumpster diving for receipts and bills.

- Alfalfa| 1 replyIf it was from the Georgia Attorney General's office, that will come as no surprise.
- Brad replies to AlfalfaI received a call from 6788050458 at 2:52 Sunday afternoon. The caller was automated, it explained that my debit card was thought to have been accessed fraudulently and to press 1 to be transferred to the fraud department of my bank. I of course hung up the phone, I do not have an active debit card because of things like this, and this same number with the same message called my brother 6 months ago while we were at work, it's pretty sad to know that these guys can use the same number that's right inside of the United States to try to steal our money, and thanks to Georgia's lack of ambition to stop these calls, people will continue to fall victim to them, if anyone of any importance in our government ever takes the time to read this when they receive the call, do something about it, shut them down and make sure you get their grubby little faces all over the 10:00 o'clock news. This makes me sick to think that the AG will just say to ignore it, as a country we need to band together to stop letting our truthful and upstanding citizens fall prey to these fools. That's my rant, as that is all I can do besides "ignore it" at this time. Thank you.
- SelmaI received a call from the same number on a Sunday afternoon. It hung up before I could receive. I tried calling back, but was busy. Then I searched online about this number. Good to hear from others.
- kimmeejust curious... how many of you are truck drivers who have applied on CAD?
That is the ONLY place they could have gotten mine and my husbands telephone number together. They called both phones within a few seconds of one another....and our numbers are very different. - Tennessee replies to shelbyThanks for posting this post. My daughter and I both got calls from this number, but hung up after two rings. Now I know not to answer call. got calls on Jan. 19, 2009 in Tennessee. Thanks again. We are verizon customers if this has anything to do with this.
- Elizabeth678-805-0458 has called me numerous times, and each time it says something different. It always asks for some kind of information that can lead to fraud or identity theft though. I absoulutely hate who ever is doing this. They call in the middle of the night and when im in school. Verizon and other phone companies should do something about this. It is getting to be about stupid.
