- Deb C| 3 repliesEarlier today I submitted a report to you guys re: two gov grant scam calls I've received today. The details are below. Just now I got a third call, this time from 702-232-2356 saying she is following up on the call I got from "Mike" earlier about my grant. Apparently they can't keep their names straight because he told me his name was "Steven Miller." I told her that this is a scam and I'm not interested where she promptly asked me "Who told you? Who told you?"
I have reported this to http://www.gao.gov/fraudnet/fraudnet.htm
Here is my post from earlier;
I got one of those calls today. Out of the blue "the government" wants to give me a grant. All I have to do is pay $3.71 (or something close to that amount) and they will send me a link where I can go to the site and let them know how much I need.
This guy with a heavy Indian or Mideastern accent named Steven Miller assured me it was legit but when I asked him if we could handle this via US mail, he told me that it has to done online and we couldn't go any further until I paid the small fee with him over the phone..
He called me from 212-777-3456 the first time. When I told him I needed time to research this whole thing first, he gave me an address of GrantGov.com. so I googled it and instead found a lot of sites that report these scams,(this is one of the sites).
He called me back not even 5 minutes later from a different number 205-453-4043 asking if I had looked it up. I told him I wasn't interested.
It makes me steaming mad because there are plenty of people who, because of their financial desperation, may end up being duped out of their money, especially seniors! I am reporting these numbers hoping you can track down these awful people.- Caller: gov grant
- AnnaI received a call asking for a small fee to receive a government grant. They had my email and basic info. I asked if he could send me info on the grant and he said no if I pay first I would get the link to set up a password. Some Indian fellow I and the phone connection was horrible. I hung up on them and they called my back numerous time for the next few days.
- Caller: Gov grant
- David replies to Deb CI just received the same phone call about the grants, and he almost got me because I am actually dealing with financial aid issues with my school, but he refused to send me anything in my email regarding this "grant" and continued to tell me it could only be done now, I said listen guy Fwd this to my email I do not have time to deal with this now I'm not going to tell you again.......there was a silence and I hung up
- DebbieI have been getting calls daily from 702-232-2356 wanting to follow up on the government grant I applied for. The first time interrupted him and said I did not apply for government grant, do not need one, am not interested and not to call me again. They call several times a day and most times I don't answer. However, I have answered a few times and told them each time I'm not interested and to take me off their list and to quit calling. I've done that about 3 times. I just now got another call from them and told him that I have told them at least 3 times that I don't need a grant, I'm not interested and to quit calling and take me off their list. He yelled at me and asked why I applied for a grant when I don't need one. I hung up on him and have put that number on my reject call list. I hope it works. I don't know what name he used but said he is from US Financial Services. As Deb C above said, he has a heavy Indian or Midwestern accent.
- Caller: US Financial Services (?)
- Call type: Telemarketer
- annI got a call from this number7042322356 saying that it was for a grant and I would need to pay $3.74 l looked this number on google and found it to be a scam.

- MaddieMe too! They called me at least 20 times asking for Lisa?? before I blocked that number but then the same person calls me again but it was Unknown so I picked it up and it was asking for Lisa again then Angela.. then the creepy man was like "What's your name? What's your name? What's your pretty name?" I hung up real quick.
- AnonREC'D several calls from this number. I haven't answered.
- LisaCAll at least 10 times a day and never answer back. Reported to State Att. General
- Cassandra bridgesAwful an really would appreciate if they didn't call anymore
- NatashaI had this call come through today and figured it was a complete scam. every question i had she interrupted me. finally she sent me to her supervisor whose name was mark mckenney and he even gave me his gov. id #. then informed me to rest assured the call isnt a scam because its being recorded by the federal government.... at not time was i ever told this call was being recorded for quality purposes. im going through getting my bachelors for school and filled out my fasfa. i got an email today saying it was approved and i should contact my school on the next steps. so thankfully i didnt do anything and told him that i would take his information and talk to my academic adviser and see if she had heard anything about this with the government grants.
- Lisa| 1 replyThey are a complete scam I actually fell for it. She gave me an address her so called Id number, address and a number to call her back. I asked for full information and even there supervisor and she said her name was Jeff millar witch did not make any sense. As soon as I gave them my credit card number they were quick to hang up. I was not in my right state of mind, so after I hung up I called the number she gave me and it was a dentist number by 1855-207-6932. Within 5 minutes I called my bank and reported my card stolen and started to do some research. They are a scam and I really hope they get caught. I should of known because every time I asked for when I applied they said last year and would tell me that I got selected asked for an email but they would not give me anything. Then he would not give me a price of how much I would receive just he says around 5000-10000 at first then he says 5,000-12000

Since you fell for one scam, you will be the target for many others. You might want to print out the following.
Things to believe:
• "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch."
• If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
• You have not won big bucks from a benign benefactor, a pot of pesos from PCH, dinero from a doctor, a car from a caller, or a grant from a gracious government
• The tooth fairy really does not exist
• Everything you read on the internet or hear on the phone is not necessarily true.
• It is illegal to ask for money for a loan or prize, before awarding the loan or prize!
• "Free Trips" are loaded with mandatory & costly extras, and you usually must give them your card number after listening to a loooong spiel at a hotel.
• Microsoft or a different famous software company, or one of their agents did NOT cold call you to fix your computer.
• The moon is not made of green cheese.
• The IRS will snailmail you, rather than phone you, if there is a problem.
• Jackalope milk is not an aphrodisiac.
• If you Vanilla Card, GreenDot, MoneyGram, Western Union or use any gift/money card to send money to a scammer, the money is gone.
• You should beware of Geeks bearing gifts, specially if the gift is a wooden horse with termites, or a statement that your computer is infected.
• 876 is NOT your lucky number, and it will cost you money to call that area code!
• The number you see on your Caller ID may not be the number of the person who called you!
• The Do Not Call List works as intended. It is NOT a call blocker!
