Spam from an ad I placed on Craig's List. Received a text from this number saying they are calling from a pager phone and can't call, so email anthonywells247@gmail.com

Received same message as the other poster from this person. When I told them to meet in person..... no further contact.

Placed an Ad on Craigslist.org and received a text message saying they are texting from a pager phone and can't call out and left me an email address to send additional photos to (deborahemmy@gmail.com. Photos were sent, then I get this message instantly:

im buying it for my Family as a surprise gift and he doesn't know
about it, so can you assure me i will not be disappointed? also no
shipment involved as i have a mover that will come for it. Im okay
with the price and condition , I can only pay you via one of the

My reply back to them was simple: If you truly want the vehicle then send me your information as you requested from me and I will send you a nominal payment of $5.00 to be sure of the validity to your claim because I have been burned in the past from a bogus PayPal scam.

Further investigation my text messages received came from this number: 702-536-1172

What I have learned from in the past:

The scammer wanted to send me a fake Paypal payment. He has a fake Paypal address from a free email provider. The payment would look real. Its a screen shot of a fake payment. Depending on what you were selling he would either try to steal your money or property. If it was a vehicle or large item, he would pretend to make an over payment. He then will instruct you to pay a mover, shipper or agent. The fake Paypal email from the scammer would say that your Paypal funds will be released when you send the scammer (mover,agent or shipper) money via Western Union or Money Gram. In reality Paypal would never hold your funds.

Log into Paypal directly without any links to check for monies received or call Paypal directly from the number on their site.

If you are selling electronics, Cell phones or computers then the scammer is trying to steal your "item". Your fake funds will be released when you send the scammer a scan copy of a receipt showing you mailed your item.

This same scam works with fake check and money orders. You and your bank will think they are real. After you cash the fake check. Days or weeks later your bank will inform you of the fraud. Your bank will have you repay the monies. Possibly close your account for fraud and report you to Law Enforcement.

The best thing to do is to sell in person face to face in a public place.

I just got the exact same message about using a pager phone, asking for more pictures of an item I just listed on Craig's List.  I texted her (Deborah) that I am reading about her trying to scam people.  

I got the same exact same  message. Glad I did some research before I gave any info out.

SAME situation and SAME emails as above. You can tell this person is using template emails because whatever you're selling on Craigslist will be in parenthesis. They just do a search and replace in their word document and substitute the item name in the same email.

I recommend reporting everything to the FBI scam center. There are enough cases to get some attention: http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx

Just got the same texts that you all received from a 'pager phone' and thought is sounded like a scam so googled the number and found this. Needless to say, no e-mailing "Deborah" and pictures or texting back.

I unfortunately was a victim to this scam. Anthony Wellington, anthonywells247@gmail.com and the phone # 7749998693 was what he was texting me with. Unfortunately, now I'm out $1,311.00 via Western Union Money Transfer to a Shipping Company, Trans Atlantic Cargo, Inc -- Irene Brown(Shipping Agent) - email address: transatlanticcargo@live.com

Same here. He texted me from 774-999-8693 and wanted me to send my paypal info to his email anthonywells247@gmail.com . I've forwarded the email to the spam website and also filed a complaint to the cyber crimes division. I also told him to go F himself and informed him I was aware of his scam and he still responded by playing dumb.

I got the same message, asking me to respond to deborahemmy@gmail.com  I never responded to the text, since my ad was in Alabama for a car and the number from the text was in Nevada.

I almost got sucked into this spam. Got the exact same message but different names. Said PayPal holding my money until I made a payment to WU to help pay for the shipping, which I would be refunded the money. Luckily I did not have $1200 just sitting around so I refused to do this which made them upset. I just happen to look up the shipping company and found out that is was a spam. Wrote this person back to let them know that they probably were spammed and all of a saddened I stop receiving messages. Really upsets me especially when they had the balls to pose as a military person!!!!!! This is the second time I almost got spammed on Craigslist. Makes me so angry!!!!!!!

Same, posted on Craigslist and keep on getting the same message and # to call.

Rec'd random text asking about photography and if I accept credit cards. I never placed a Craigslist ad like others on this thread.
