I was home when the phone rang & I waited to hear a voice, but they just hung up & didn't leave any message.

Some idiot claiming to be a Ron Johnson calling about contributing to a Veterans charity - SCAM !

I answered. My mistake. He said he was from Centel ( which by the way is the Las Vegas telephonecompany ). He was calling on behalf of the Purpke Heart so I assume they wanted $$$$.  They were also calling before 9 am ( it was 8am ).   What ever happened to no telemarketing calls before 9am or after 9pm???

I get 'saturation level' calls from this number.  Never an answer or a message, but if anything other than the answering machine picks up, scam telemarketers call within minutes.  This is being used as a 'blind' to get people with caller ID to reveal that someone is home.  This particular service, known as 'flushing' (think Quail) is particularly popular among Detectives, Repo Men and Process Servers.  It is not at all restricted to this number, either.  There are 'banks' (large blocks of consecutive numbers) available through subscription and Phone Phreak Autodialing software.

If you answer and tell specifically not call at certain hours. Report them immediately for not complying. You HAVE to tell them though. I cut them off in their tracks, rather rudely I suppose, and let them know NEVER before 8 am and after 5PM MY TIME (PST, MST,CST, EST, whatever your zone is.) They usually comply.

I figure that the time frame given is only fair since most services set the same time frame to show up at your house. Play their own game back at them.  :-)

And it is XENTEL. They WERE a huge call center company operating on behalf of A LOT of charities. It is my understanding they went bankrupt in 2013. (I hated them anyway. ANNOYING!) So, if someone calls claiming to be them do yourself a favor and just hang up.
