703-348-6253 is identified as Found Amer Vets on my caller ID.  We have signed up on the "Do Not Call" list, but obviously it hasn't worked for these people.  In the last week they have called 13 times.  They call at all hours of the day and night.  My husband works a third shift and these calls wake him up.  After reading some reviews I am more than convinced that I would never donate to them anyway.

When you registered with the DNC did you take a few moments to read about how it actually works and who is or is not exempt?  Its good to know whether your complaints are valid or not.

Calls daily.  Multiple times daily.  Can't make them stop.  Tried answering and now I just ignore.  Even still, it is really disruptive.

Several points: (1) Nonprofit organizations (NPO) are exempt from the DNC regulations. You may ask to have your number removed, and an NPO with any ethics at all will remove your number from the list. (2) Many charities, this one included, hire professional telemarketing solicitors to make their calls, as most NPOs do not have sufficient staff to do so. (3) If you are in doubt about the legitimacy of an organization, always check with Charity Navigator, the charitable section of the Better Business Bureau, or GuideStar, which contains the actual IRS 990 returns for tax-exempt organizations.

In this case, the Foundation for American Veterans does have tax exempt status (501)(c)(9), received in 1995. The IRS 990 return for 2013 states that income from contributions was just over $8 million, and its expenses were also over $8 million. (There was about a $100,000 loss. (Not good.) Worse, however, is that of the $8 million in revenue from contributions, $3.3 million (over 40%) was paid to telemarketing or mailing companies. Only $2.5 million went to the organization's exempt purposes (31%). The rest was for administration and management (29%). These numbers are horrible. The IRS actually flags nonprofit organizations when the expenses exceed 20% of the contributions. Charity Navigator gave this organization 0/4 stars. I got a call from them this afternoon, and the only positive thing in my mind was that the caller identified herself as a paid solicitor. (At least they were truthful about that.) I politely declined the "investment opportunity" she was offering.

    Hope this is helpful.

One point of clarification on my earlier post. I said that "The IRS actually flags nonprofit organizations when the expenses exceed 20% of the contributions." I should have said that the IRS flags nonprofit organizations when the fundraising and management expenses exceed 20% of the contributions. At least 80% of expenses should be directed to the organization's exempt purposes.

    Sorry for the inconvenience

Called twice today.  I did not answer either time.  Foundation for American Vets.  I assume it's a charity of some kind.

"Hi, is the lady of the house there?"

First off, this is a business line. Second, there is only one female employee at this location (me) and I can guarantee they weren't calling for me specifically.

    Hate this garbage.

Obviously my phone number is on every list available, but I do not answer any call I do not recognize.  My friends and family know this, and they know how to otherwise reach me.  If it is truly important, the caller will leave a message, and for future reference, I do not appreciate phone solicitations, and will never give to a charity over the phone

The website Military Money Matters ( http://www.military-money-matters.com/foundation-for-american-veterans.html ) concludes they are calling to make money for themselves and not military families and personnel. Block them!

Caller ID sad, "Foundationforam."  Called at 8:15 am.  Since I don't know them I don't answer.  No message.  Thanks for the information.  I will just block them and save the aggravation.

This call was from "professional fundraiser" calling on behalf of  the Foundation for American Vets which is technically a charity. But the "charity" spends almost all of it's funds on their own salaries and paying the fundraisers. VERY little actually goes toward helping any veterans. check out the info on them at greatnonprofits.org

We continue to get two, three, or four calls per day from this number and they do not leave a message, just hang ups!  I decided to call it back today (for we do not answer when they call) and it ways Foundation of American Vets, however, no one answered and the recording said that the mailbox was full!  This really seems like a scam!!  I am getting ready to file a complaint on the government website!!
