I just got a call from this number, a foreign man told me he was an officer with the IRS, proceeded to tell me something, I stopped him & told him he was a fraud & I'm reporting this number, He said he had my address & made him repeat what my current address is, he repeated an old address for me years ago, I told him that IRS has my current address & he is so wrong & I'm reporting him, He hung up on me.

Person call from 703-662- 8330 said they were from IRS and I was about to have a criminal case against me for not paying past taxes. They said I needed a criminal lawyer or to visit an IRS office in next 2 hours to pay the fine. Before that I would need to put the $ in an account before the meeting.

Rec'd a VM from these turkeys today 2.09.15. The caller identified himself as "tax fraud dept from internal revenue service". He said that he had "received a legal petition notice for a tax evasion against her (my wife's) name" and that we should contact them "before this matter goes to a federal claim courthouse or before you get arrested". Thick accent, I had to listen to the VM several times to get it down correctly.

Errors are as follows: 1) tax fraud is different from tax evasion, he didn't seem aware of this. 2) no IRS agent would say that he "received a legal petition notice". A notice is something that the IRS would send to a taxpayer, not that the IRS would send to another department of the IRS. 3) First step (if there were a legitimate problem) would be that a letter would be sent to the taxpayer, 30 days would be given to respond; in case of lack of response after several notices, this would be submitted to the IRS collection office to initiate lien or levy proceedings, after formal written notice of intent to file lien or levy. It would never be directed to a "Federal claim courthouse" before these steps ocurred. Most likely, he was intending that the case would be referred from the IRS to US Attorneys or something. "Or before you get arrested" appears to indicate that the case would be sent to the US Attorneys, we would ignore a subpoena requiring that we appear in court, and then that an arrest order would be ordered. He did not seem to realize that there is a process to be followed, sequentially; the IRS would not simply determine an error had been made on a tax form, and then issue an arrest warrant. Source: I have been through a full, in person IRS audit several years ago, am working through the offer in compromise process, and have worked as a Federal employee for +/- 10 years.

Guy with a thick accent claiming to be from the IRS called to say a warrant was out for my arrest. Apparently, I haven't been keeping up with my taxes--this, after just paying $1,000 in estimated taxes last month. Sorry, creep. You picked on the wrong person.

Also received a call from James Anderson of the IRS.  What a bad attempt at a scam.  I told him I was home and to send the officers to arrest me, and I would have my local police here to check their ID.  He hung up.  Would love to see these creeps caught.

The same message that "Colorado guy" got (above) was left on my answering machine last night (2-12-2015). the message (which I could barely understand through the thick Indian accent) was; "received a legal petition notice for a tax evasion against you" and that I should contact them "before this matter goes to a federal claim courthouse or before you get arrested". This woman claimed to be from the "tax audit department of the IRS". She said that I should call an agent (couldn't understand the name given) at 703-662-8330.

I was taken aback at first, many things going through my mind, but in the end, I decided not to do anything until I had checked out the phone number on the internet. Glad I did. I was mostly certain that it was a scam before hand but you want to be absolutely positive when dealing with the "IRS", right? Found lots of sites dealing with this scam, what a relief.
