They left a message on my answering machine. It was Charlie King calling from the IRS. He gave me a call back number. He said there is a case against me and if I dont respond, I'll be arrested. He didn't ask for me by name, so I know its a scam. Also  had an accent.

James called from the IRS and said that I was being investigated by the IRS for tax evasion. Hmmm, I work for H&R Block, dude. They send letters; they do not call! Anyway, "James" had not perfected his script and it left a lot to be desired. He did ask for me by name, however, it was still a scam. His accent was quite thick.

James Anderson called from "the IRS" saying I owed $4835.00 and I had committed fraud, he then transferred me to "Senior Officer Charlie King" who told me if I did not pay they were going to send the sheriff to come arrest me within the next 2-5 hours and I was going to be in jail for
3 years and 22 days or I could go turn myself in. He also said I could not hang up my phone and to go to the nearest store and buy a check with cash for the amount due.
Also both had thick accents.

Second--These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

Had this message today on my machine. It was not even a full message. Foreign accent and threat the same as you had. So sad that is how people spend their time. I am blocking that number.

just got a call from this 703*828*0310 my wife was worried all day . Who do we report this to?

If you read Alfalfa's earlier post, you would have seen a link to the appropriate place at which to report the problem.

Me too, it was an Indian guy. How threatening is that? Thought they were smarter than that!

Some Indian guy says something about Federal Govt, get arrest, blah, blah, blah. Scammer

Fourth call from fourth different number, telling me to call yet a different number. Always the same msg, the IRS is going to take legal action, jail, etc. Same Indian/Pakistani accent in the recorded message. They are parasites.

Received a call today from a guy stating the same IRS scam info as the other callers stated from 703-828-0310.  I can't believe anyone would fall for this but sad to think it could happen. They are evil parasites!

I received this call today from 703-828-0310 and he was a guy with Indian accent. He told me he was a senior Irs officer and he was going to arrest me for fraud. I told him I didn't understand and that everything was fine with my taxes.I thought about a mistake but anyway it was scary. Bad people.

I received a very disturbing call from 703-828-0310 stating I was going to be arrested in 45 minutes for tax evasion of $5083.00 and that I had no recourse.  He added that I was really going to be sued for $120,000.  I realize it was a scam.  The only thing new to add to the above posts is that the "Senior Chief Investigating Officer" for the IRS is now going under the name of Daniel Cruz.

Same as the rest of you folks.  Thick accent, stated he was from the IRS and that I needed to call back at this number or they would put out a warrant for my arrest.  Is anyone actually falling for this after all this time with the same number?

Received similar call today from this number.....IRS Officer Charlie Charlie King....thick accent, tax fraud, tax evasion complaint, I'm going to jail, call back or get arrested, do not disregard the message, etc.....PARASITES!!!!!

I received the same call from the same (Indian) guy over two days from two different numbers on my cell phone.  Nobody has this number other than close associates and it's on the Do Not Call list - So I knew it was strange from the get go.  He left a message on each occasion.  I had my lawyer call him from a secured line and began to question him.  This gentleman is a classic case of a low life, uneducated lousy at his job, scam artist.  His answer to my lawyer was simple this - "Don't ever call me again you son of a [***]"  A little ironic don't you think???

I received the same "IRS" call on my cell phone. An a--hole with a fricking Indian accent. WTF?!?

This character called saying he was IRS; stated an action had been filed in the Courts against me. I'm disabled and on SSDI; what did they expect to get out of me. I just laughed at them...I suggest you do the same. I also have been hit with another scam attempt saying I've won 2.5 million dollars, and to call quick; that number is 702 359 2384.
