claims to be from the Internal Revenue Tax and Audit Dept.  If you don't answer you get a "recorded message" telling you or your attorney to call the number immediately "before things get out of hand".  Read in the paper last week that this scam to have you send money, to avoid prosecution, is occurring all over the country.

Caller from Virginia claims  to be from IRS.Threating to place a warrant for arrest, lien on my house, jail time for fraud. Again a heavily accented male with a lot of background noises.  Wanted to be quite convincing even giving a badge  number. But you could easily see scam to many loopholes.

Same here.  Funny thing is, I picked up the phone because my CID said Centreville, Virginia.  I have a client there.  The caller started his scam-pitch; which I know to be such because the IRS doesn't call anyone, they always mail you telling you to contact them!

So I decided to play along.  "Really?...OMG..." (yadda yadda...(boy did I play scared:-)  Then he put the money bite on me.  I was silent for a moment, as I reached for my trusty police whistle, shattered his eardrum with it by blowing in the phone, then hung up.

Claims to be from the IRS fraud dept. Left a number but when I called back I got a message that the call did not go through by the usual female voice bot. The number immediately called me back but no response on the other end when I picked up. I just called back and again it was answered by a recorded message that the call did not go through but this time left by some red neck used car dealer sounding guy with noise in the background rather than the usual female voice bot.
IRS always sends correspondence in writing. They do not send cheesy intimidating auto messages.
I suspect this is someone going through public record lists of people with past tax issues hoping to scare someone into sending them money.

Same scam as outlined by others. IRS calling...have you or attorney call back...
Problem is he keeps calling and calling...same stupid message. I CANNOT believe a government agency or someone would not shut this down immediately, especially during tax season. If anyone has a government agency I can report this too, let me know.

It has nothing to do with people with past tax issues.  They just get phone numbers, a robo dialer, shield software to spoof the Caller ID and have at it.

Yes. Left an intimidating message, but if you keep your sense about you, it can't be legit. Then they called again, asking if I was so and so, but hung up on me.

Hung up on me when I questioned who they were, although I clearly heard them say they were the IRS tax fraud. I got their message out of my trash where I deleted it after hearing what a jerk the person was with their demands to call immediately before I go to jail.

'This is an automated message from Internal Revenue Services from Tax and Audit Department. The moment you read this message I want you or your attorney of record to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive and really urgent. We have received a legal petition notice against your name regarding tax fraud. So before things get worse and before things get out of your hand I want you to call me back immediately....

Person did not sound like a recorded message but did sound as if reading a script.

Here, we go again.  Received three calls from them today all on my husbands business line asking for me. (I am not an employee for his company.  Although I do like to hanging out with him and answer his phone when he's not available to talk.)  Anyway...  Two calls were left on his machine asking for me, supposedly "recorded messages", but obviously someone is reading a script as the two messages were from the same person, but different pauses and slightly different tone to certain words).  They are trying to extort money from me by threatening jail time.  The third call I received in person.  He said his name is "officer Mike Davis from the IRS Audit Department".  Very heavy accent.  I said OK and hung up.  My husband and I had received the same calls about a year or so ago from the very same guy.  So, I knew this was a scam due to the prior experience.  I can't believe they are actually trying to call me again after I told him last year that I knew it was fraud and that I had contacted the FTC regarding his fraudulent activity??.  I truly hope no one is falling victim to this ridiculous scam.  FYI, the IRS will not call you.  They will mail correspondence to you, and if you fail to respond they will just levy your accounts, garnish your wages, what have you, but they will not call you.  They "don't have time" for that.
