Didn't pick up, no message left.

Can we all just agree that this is a SCAM call and leave it at that?

Telemarketing has to be stopped. Hanging up on them does not work, yelling at them does not work, writing long diatribes on line does not work.
I love talking to telemarketers, I try to keep them on the phone as long as possible. I start doing the dishes, cooking, cleaning my house. That way they are not wasting my time.  I pretend I am interested in their products, they won't hang up if they thing there is a possibility of making a buck.  I have talked to some for over an hour! I got lots done. I like to think I am saving hundreds of other people from getting a phone call from them because they are talking to me.
It is important for us to waste their time, because that is the only weapon we have against them. If enough people did this they could not stay in business. They would not be able to find the suckers amoungst the people like me. Don't do them the favor of swearing at them or hanging up. That is how they screen people They rely on people cursing an hanging up. Waste their time and end telemarketing forever.
The people that call are from call centers, they feed leads to the businesses. When I pretend to sign up for their services maybe the businesses have to pay a fee for the lead. So we can cost them money by pretending to accept the service. This is the only thing they understand, if telemarketing wasn't profitable they would not do it. People can stop telemarketers simply by talking to them. People can act to stop this.

They call, long pause and then I just hang up.  Are they able to track/do anything by just picking up?  My husband insists if the phone rings to answer.

Just want to say that this number with caller ID of "Altamonts" called me three times today.  I did not answer, as I never answer phone unless I know who is calling.  Checked voice messages and "Altamonts" left none.  Don't know or care who it is, I will continue to not answer phone when I see this number.

This number "Altamonts" has called me several times over the past weeks, too.  Today the telemarketer must be bored or have happy Friday syndrome.  When the call went to my voicemail she just started singing as if she'd had a few happy hour cocktails.  I'm in Massachusetts and we have a "Do Not Call" registry.  I think there's also a national "Do Not Call" registry.  Find it, enter your information.  Then, when they do call tell them you're on the registry and you will report their call.  Some states, like mine, then offer to fine them $50 for each subsequent call.  (Although the state doesn't follow up on the reports since they're too swamped.  It's worth a shot though.)  Fight back!  (Good luck with that one.)

Pitch for solar panels on roof. Very aggressive; would not take NO for an answer.

While there's no easy or simple solution here (though I do like and appreciate Rob's efforts to waste the time of these callers!), I find using a VoIP service helps because I can block up 50 #'s, and then I can set rules for another 50 #'s to get a busy signal, and I believe I have the option to treat yet another 50 #'s to a message that the number they dialed is not accepting calls. Ultimately, we're going to need to lift those caps on how many unique callers can be blocked or the phone companies and/or our government will need to step in and solve this mess. The problem with that is the phone company makes money off this nuisance traffic, so they're probably in no hurry to shut these annoyances down. :(

They call again and again.  They were blocked several times and they have changed their number but not the caller ID of "Altamonts".  I wish them all the ill from the bowels of hell and that their souls suffer the most vile and perpetual reincarnation of excrement eating flatworms bathed in the endless pain of an acidic environment with salt lysis of their cells and electrical charges through their simple nervous systems.   To be repeated perpetually by the 100th power for each instance of their criminality upon our peace....

this altamonts calls at least twice an hour.  the phone number showing for them is 7062477330

We don't answer the phone when this number calls but they call 4 times per day.
We have reported this abuse to the federal do not call list with NO success.
They call every day and sometimes at night.
What can we do??

Probably time to obtain a call blocker device, app, or phone.
Google "call blocker" to see the various types, and find one that best meets your needs.

They're calling numbers in massachusetts, apparently!  What weasels!!!!
