They called and left an automated message about some debt and if I didn't call by the end of the day then it would be whatever legal thing would happen. I called them back and they said they were Madison & Associates. I asked what it was about and he said he had to pull up the file. I told him okay and that I thought they were a fake. He put me on hold and then hung up on me. It is a scam.

I received a call from this number today (706) 528-7232;  It was an automated call stating they were from Madison and Associates Law Firm and this is a final attempt to collect a debt.  Press 1 to speak to a representative to clear this up or Press 2 to be placed on their DO NOT CALL List. (LoL) - The message stated I had to call them back by the end of the day.  I did not call them back, nor will I.  SCAMMERS - DON'T ANSWER YOUR PHONE AND DON'T CALL THEM BACK.   (Imagine the poor people who fall for this ...  )   (Be advised, any legitimate Company or Collection Company will send you notices in the mail, if it truly is a debt you owe. Never agree to anything over the phone with slime like this.  Always ask for it in writing and do not give out any personal information, not even your address.  After all, if they truly are a Collection Agency, they should already have your address.  DON'T ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE TRICKED) (I'm listing them as a Debt Collector because they do not have an option for Scammer).

They called and said they were Madison & Associates and said I owed money. They were threatening to take me to court. I told them that the info they had was not completely right. They kept insisting that I settle. They were rude

ok folks I receive the same phone call just to let you know I work at a law firm. Therefore I am familiar with the legal process and their obligations. No matter what these people tell you they will try to give you an affidavit number which makes no sense because an affidavit is a legal notarized statement. What they should have said was citation number. They will ask if you received your summons.do not give them any information whatsoever. If you show these people that you're not an idiot and you can't be scammed they will hang up on you immediately after asking this particular question and they will not contact you again. they will tell you they are ready to go to trial and blah blah blah. I lost you have the legal right to find out the State Bar number for the attorney representing people litigating against you, so just to this number because it will throw them off their game they will get frustrated and they will hang up with you and I will leave you alone. Good luck

A phone call from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed ... not emailed or texted]

    Source:
    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:
    http://www.consumerfinance.gov/blog/debtcollection/

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

This company is not a scam bc they do actually validate your debt and if you changed your address since borrowing money of course once found you will be called and may be threatened with civil action which is legal. Pay your bills like an adult or file bankruptcy to protect yourself.

Yes, every one should pay their bills. Their legitimate bills, to the original creditor or to a collection firm that adheres to the FDCPA & can provide a legitimate notice of validation by mail. NOT e-mail or fax. I seriously doubt that you & your gang of thieves can, or will, supply anything in writing by mail. We here don't have to wonder why.
Why don't you go ahead & post the valid, physical address of your "company"? We'll quickly track it down & will, no doubt, be supplying everyone here with a nice description of the UPS store that houses your "offices". Go ahead, prove me wrong! I just love getting in to discussions concerning the lawful collection of debt with you scammers in GA. None of you ever care to intelligently talk with me about debt collection. Many of you know all about bankruptcy though. Most of you are the scammers you are today because of having had to include a bankruptcy on your long list of failures. Feel free to come on back though. We'll talk some more about your "company".

It is illegal to make threats and leave recorded msgs on people phone per the fair debt act, also you can be sued. No legitimate company leave a threatening msg nor call on a weekend

You are on crack if you think that you can sit here as a "attorney" and call people names as you did in this comment. Grow the hell up you have not validated any dads you were telling people that they got money from some cash advance place you are quoting citation numbers without any documentation.  Funny how when you called me yesterday I informed you I was going to call the FBI and you chose to hang the phone up on me. When I called you back you told me that I just spoke with you after a refusing to give your name be refusing to read the many Miranda and see either never even gotten any money from some cash advance place and to top it all you called me by the name I go by not my legal name. I hope the FBI find you Honshu down make sure life a living hell and use up the rest of your life in prison!

I work for two attorneys as well and while I agree with most of your statement what I can tell you is no they should not have said a citation number. In fact the [***] who called me yesterday decided to use the word a citation which I'm assuming he got from reading your post. I citation and mainstage is only issued by a law-enforcement agency.  As I told the [***] all my response to him on the voicemail I don't only work for attorneys I am actually certified that collector and I personally have no problem hunting this [***] down because what he is doing is absolutely illegal.

Ok....then post your physical address. Why does the phone company have no listing for your business? Why has the BBB never heard of you? Cause you are a fake preying on people who work for a living. I bet your mom is proud.

This number called my phone 7 time within the same minute. Never got a voicemail. Called back and I answered it and it was a recording saying I owed money and if I didn't make a payment I would be taken to court.

If they are not a scam then why when you ask for something in writing they get all agitated and start yelling! Its against the law to call and harass people at home and at work! I already have checked with my attorney its illegal they have to notify you in writing first! Once you do file bankruptcy they still call and attempt to collect the debt. I have been receiving these phone calls for over a year now stating that i was being arrested if i dont call by the end of the day. One thing these scammers seem to forget is some of us work for the government or law enforcement agencies.
