2/4/12...just got home and found an unusual voice message on my home phone at 10:30 am.  He claimed to be an atorney and advised me to call back...or else certain unpleasant events would unfold.

Same here got a call from this [***] and when I called back he hung up

I also received a call he said I was going to be arrested and that I need to speak to their attorney

I received two messages from this number, he said his last name is jones and that if he do not hear from my attorney certain things will happen and he wish me luck.

Just received numerous calls from this number starting at 7:00am!  After hanging up on him several times I finally answered and asked why he was calling me at 7:00 in the morning.  He told me he would just send his sheriff out and to pack my bags!  What a douche!

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Some fraudsters have instructed victims to fax a statement agreeing to pay a certain amount, on a specific date, via a pre-paid Visa card. The statement further declares the victim will never dispute the debt.

If you receive these calls, do not follow the caller’s instructions. Rather, you should:

■Notify your banking institutions.
■Contact the three major credit bureaus and request an alert be put on your file.
■Contact your local law enforcement agencies if you feel you are in immediate danger.
■File a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
Tips to avoid becoming a victim of this scam:

■Never give your Social Security number—or personal information of any kind—over the telephone or online unless you initiate the contact.
■Be suspicious of any e-mail with urgent requests for personal financial information. The e-mail may include upsetting or exciting but false statements to get you to react immediately.
■Avoid filling out forms in e-mail messages that request personal information.
■Ensure that your browser is up-to-date and security patches have been applied.
■Check your bank, credit, and debit card statements regularly to make sure that there are no unauthorized transactions. If anything looks suspicious, contact your bank and all card issuers.
■When you contact companies, use numbers provided on the back of cards or statements

I recieved this same message! what in the world is going on?

received a call at 8 am treatening to drag me to court. Drag me sounds like a treat. I have it recoreded. cant give me any info just that I need a lawyer and when I toldn them to take me to court they treatened to drag me there.

Got a call at 7am stating if I didn't call back that I would be dragged into legal matters and I would be arrested if I didn't call back.

Just got three back to back phone calls followed by a voicemail from this number claiming to call them back or pay the consequences.

My advise to any of you who has gotten this call...change your banking information!  They have your social security number and probably your checking account number.  After calling them back and telling them I was reporting them - the guy I spoke to recited my social security number back to me and hung up.

i didnt get a phine call but i got text and delet it before i did any thing they said i pick  to test a new iphone we i check     it out online and found it was a scam if a good thing to couse i just got the phone and hookit up nobody has my num but the phone   company i wounder how they got this num if nobody hs  it but the phone company

I am having the same issue from 707-969-0053, after I did'nt return his calls to my home phone# , The man with a very heavy India accent , which is very  hard to understand his English as to what he is saying. On 2/7/12,  He called my cell phone number. Which really allerted me because he even has my cell phone #.   I filed a complaint at www.IC3.gov.
I alerted my bank,  and next step 3 major credit agencies.  What a pain! I just called back707-969-0053 on my home phone # caller id shows Fort Bragg, CA .. and  I did tell the scammer I was aware of his scam and  that I filed a complaint at www.IC3.gov. FBI, that I closed my checking account , and that I  notified all card agencies of possibity id theft!  Of course, I demanded he stop calling me with his scam!  He did ask for my phone #, I refused to provide,  and he said that he has my social security number. I advised him to except a call from the FBI.

Call Type: Debt Collector

Had 2 calls today from this number, went to voicemail since i'm at work all day.  All i could understand was "mike jones" (supposedly this indian man's name.... doubtful) and verify social security number.  The rest was completely unintelligible.  I don't owe past due amounts on any pay day loans, although i admit I have taken one out.  at least I can tell that this is a recent thing that's happening to many people.  Will make special note to check credit and bank account frequently.

I got that text too, but just deleted it.

I just received an email from my job saying Eric Johnson had called while I was away. It seemed urgent or they wouldn't have emailed me about it.  I'm checking everything related to my finances and reporting this asap.  Thank you for your posts.  I thought I was going to be in real trouble.

I just received the same type of call. He said that a sheriff would be at my work tomorrow. Do I need to worry about a sheriff showing up? I figure this is a scam. I have had a payday loan before but paid it back. He would not give me the loan information he stated" it was there silver bullet for court" I am supposed to call him back in 1 hour or they will arrest me.

I did a month ago, due to overspending for X-mas,a payday loan. Of course it was paid back in full on its due date.  Interest rate way too high!  I am sure this a scammer.  I have recieved the same word for word sayings about get an attorney , this a sever civil and liabity manner... etc, etc, watch for the sheriff showing up ....  I would file the FBI compliant ,  lock your credit reports, and alert for possible Id thief/ fraud , and call your banking for checking to see what they decide to do.  I know on the online payday loans application, your full checking information does not show, but one never knows.   The caller is coming through from Fort Bragg , CA phone # 7079690053.  I think this a plishing scammer,  who hoping he will scare someone  into getting him their credit card or checking info, to stop the fraud collection calling and collections. And then he will use your credit card or checking account.   I would not worry,  I checked with all 3 credit agencies, and my bank all is well.   I called back Mr. Jones, yesterday, and I told him that we are on to his scam, and to expect a call from the FBI !  Mr. Jones has finally stop calling me from India.

I have been recieving calls all morning from this guy here at my business- (where I work!)  This is not ok- he claimed to be a lawyer and if I didn't cooperate he would have someone come to my office tomorrow for me!  This has to be stopped!
