This number keeps on calling and we are on  3 ,NO CALL LISTS.  Never leaves message, comes up as unknown caller.

Today, April 29, my caller I.D. showed the above number.  I was busy doing something and just let the phone ring.  It rang about twice as long as the robocalls usually do.  I finished my task and moved to the phone to check the number, just in case it was a known number or an emergency.  The place of origin was Oak Park, IL.  I was surprised when the ringing stopped and the word "answering" appeared.  At that point the attempt to call me ended.  

Two matters are troubling about this call.  The first is that my caller I.D. says that is the SECOND time this number called.  I've been home all day and the phone only rang this one time.  I checked my long term I.D. log and couldn't find evidence that this number had EVER called before.  The second troubling aspect is the (never before seen on my caller I.D.) word "answering".  Is there a scam out there which somehow routes another call through my phone?  Just wondering.  

My mistake. The place of origin was Oak Lawn, not Oak Park.

My answering machine tells me when a call is being picked up. So that is not new to me, usually indicating that my answering machine is taking the call. In my case, I do not hear anything until my answering machine has completed delivering my message at which point I once again hear the caller or this case dead silence. My numbers are listed individually on my caller ID no matter how many times someone calls. ... Though I would not doubt nor put it past these scammers to come up with new ways to defraud our phones and the security measures put into place. It is a scary thought to think they could reroute calls through another phone without permission. ... When I called the Attorney General's Office, I was told they are actively trying to catch people. But it is not easy as most of them are not even in this country. Plus she said they are using local numbers to cover up where they are actually located. ... Pretty sure (but do not quote me) that it is required by USA Law that the name of the company show on the caller ID, another way to tell if it's a scammer. ... When in doubt, I just do not answer.
