It was a recorded call stating it was Kelley Smith.  When it connects you to someone, it is definitely not a Kelly Smith.  It is a company called Convergent, or Convergence..something like that.  It connected me to a rude collection agent for TXU energy.

It is a collection agent for a electric provider in Texas.

They are incorrect.  I owe them nothing.

I just blocked the number in my cell phone and in my online phone call management service.

I received a phone call from them, when I tried to   return the call then wanted my credit call number. I was told that I owed them over $700.00 but could not tell me why.

A phone call, email or text message from a supposed debt collector is not legally sufficient evidence of debt.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) includes statements such as this:

    * Every collector must send you a written “validation notice” telling you how much money you owe within five days after they first contact you. This notice also must include the name of the creditor to whom you owe the money, and how to proceed if you don’t think you owe the money.   ["Written" means snailmailed - US Mail ... not emailed or texted]

    https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

Therefore, if that caller wants you to pay immediately, before you get the written validation notice via snailmail, or if the caller wants payment via green dot, Western Union, or other untraceable means, then the call is definitely not legitimate.

IF you wish to communicate with the supposed collector / creditor, visit  the following page, for example "Action Letters" to snailmail:

If you KNOW you owe no money, or believe the call was from a fake debt collector, please take the time to read this:

My mom has been recieving a call from this number several times a day for 2 days. I decided to call back when i had a chance from my cell phone. When the lady answered she told me the company was "Convergant". I asked her what her company did and she said she was not allowed to desclose that information and asked to speak to (my mothers name). The funny things is my moms home phone is in her name but i called from my cell which is in mine and they lady asked for my mom. How did they know to ask for her when i did not call from her home?
