Me too! Just now. Scam?

I just got the call as well - at 3:30PM Pacific Time today September 22, 2008.  It showed up as TX Houston Area.

I didnt answer it.

Called showed up as Dir Asssist, TX. When I answered it was the same recording I get from NCA (another pest caller), with the same mispronunciation of my son's name (he has a common name)  Lately, instead of letting the answering machine pick up I disconnect them by pressing "talk" then immediatelly "off"

I just received a call from this number, when i called it back the lady asked me for the city and state, like when you call 411.

Just received a call from this number, when i called back the lady that answered said "City & State" like they do when you call 411. Not sure who they are. Will answer next time.

We got the number today. I have heard that they route the number through some country in the Carribean or something like that. Too bad for them that we use magicJack, so we aren't charged for long distance. ;-) BTW, magicJack is good, but like any computer program, it does have its problems. It is definitely worth getting though! I mentioned this because I notice that they are advertising here, so I thought that I would pass on the tip.

they called my cell phone yesterday with caller id showing 713-555-1212, which is a bogus number as this number is for directory assistance in the 713 area code. a recorded voice asked for me by my first name and wanted me to press 1 if i was the person; if I wasn't the person but knew the person they were trying to call, to press 2; or if they had reached the registered owner of the phone and was in no way associated with the person they were trying to reach to press 3.  I hung up on them without pressing anything, and would recommend the same to anyone receiving a caller id listing incoming call from 713-555-1212.  next step to put all my calls on the dnc list on the computer.

I got a call from them and it blasted loud music in my ears.

This just happened to us too. It was playing Techno music very loudly. What is this?

I just got this number on my cell phone. I never answer #'s I don't know so I let it go to voice mail. Wonder if there is any way to block the # from coming through

The number comes up as 713-555-1212, however this is directory assistance number.  Someone is spoofing their caller ID to this number.  If you get any calls from any area code with the last 7 digits as 555-1212, it is directory assistance for that area.

I frequently get a call from this number at various times of the day/night. I googled the number and found it to be the directory assistance number for the Houston area. It is very aggravating, but I ignore it once I see the number and move on.

This is what they call a spoof number.  They call and leave a message for you to call the real 800 number.  It is from United cash loans and by doing this they are violating the FTC laws.  I am reporting them right now I suggest you do the same.

I got the call too.  I wonder if it is one of those long distance scams that if you pick up, the caller has access to your phone and makes long distance calls on our dime.

It's a collection agency trying to pose as a local caller thinking you're going to answer the phone. It left a voice recorded message giving me a number to call and a reference id.

Got called by this number today. Did not answer. Did a yahoo search and number came up for the Quinn Family, Houston, Texas. Figure this to be bogus as (area code)-555-1212 is usually directory assistance.

the Number dialed my cell phone, then an automated voice asked if it was me (who else would answer my private phone?), then asked me to press 1 if it was me, 2 if it was someone that KNEW me, or 3 if it was not me. I chose 1 to see what the deal was, and I am quite sure it was a creditor, as they refused to give me any info unless I said it was me.

Received phone call from this company @ 6:14pm on 2/12/09.  I answered it only because I knew whoever it was, it was illegal for them to "spoof" their caller ID information.  They asked for my husband who was not home, and then asked if I was related to him.  Michelle Fortum (sp?) left the number 800-835-9313 x233 to call her back, she said they were located in Wichita, Kansas.  She informed me she was calling in reference to a Quick911cash.com about a payday loan.  

Our bank account was comprised in December of 2007, and this company went haywire running charges daily through my husband's bank account causing hundreds of dollars in bank fees to accumulate.  It was such a mess that he finally ended up closing that account & converting to a cash only basis.  When I explained this to her, she said yeah those companies do that.  I advised her that I lived in Texas and she started laughing and said you're safe then because we can't collect from you.

FYI: If you live in Texas, the only thing employers can garnish from your wages is child support.  The federal govt. can garnish for income tax and student loans, but individual companies cannot garnish for unpaid bills.

Since they broke laws by spoofing their caller ID information, I have reported them to the DNC list and my state Attorney General's office along with the FTC.

spoof # call, 2/23, 4pm "unknown"...had the auto-dialer prior. they must think G B is still in office.
