- AnonymousIndian woman called stating that she was Dept of Legal Affairs, US Treasury. At that point, I told her to jump off the nearest bldg and she hung up. SCAM SCAM SCAM
- KennethReceived call on my home phone. Wife took message, said they had legal action pending. She gave me the number and I called it. Bad recording of the actual treasury department phone line, which does not respond to number input. I mashed the keypad for a minute or so and got a login incorrect message. No answers after several calls and no way to leave a message. Scam. Just wish they would answer so I could yell at them.
- SusanReceived call on my home phone. They said that I or my attorney needed to call the IRS about an urgent matter. I needed to call a 202-xxx-xxxx number which I didn't write down.
- Call type: Prank
- Terri| 6 repliesMessage was left on my home phone today for my daughter from 713-931-3825. The guy called himself John Steve (if I understood him correctly) with the Department of Legal Affairs claiming an enforcement action had been started on her name. He encouraged her to call back to avoid more serious problems. My husband got a similar call last week from somebody by a different name and with a different legal entity.

- Robin replies to Terri| 3 repliesI got the exact same message. I did call back and left a message. Should i just disregard this. I think j van block the phone number

- Robin replies to Mike-in-MD| 1 replyHis name was john steve also. He left the same message As above. I hope i didnt. Cause more scam damage by calling him bAck. It wAs an automatic message that answered
- JulieJust got the same call, answered is, bad connection said his name was John Steve and I needed to call the same number he was calling from, arrest warrant out for my arrest. Said he was from Dept of US Treasury.
- Mike-in-MD replies to RobinAll you did by calling back was encourage the scammer to keep calling with their bogus threats. They may also give your number to other scammers as someone who responds to the scam so you may get more scam calls from other numbers.
- Lisa replies to Terri| 1 replyI just got the same call, same name, can barely understand the guy but he left the same exact message.
- Jmreceived a call, said it was US Treasury & illegal action had been taken against my name. I asked why I had not received mail indicating this. Caller explained I was in serious legal trouble because I have not responded (nothing to respond to). Gave me the 713-931-3825 to speak with Sr Investigative Officer, Robert Matthew. Did not really intend to call, thank goodness for the internet and being able to see other comments to feel at peace that this is a scam. Feel bad for elderly who get sucked into this junk.
- Aimee replies to LisaI got the same message too
- CarolI have been recieving phone calls like this for the past several days!!! One was a call from the US government and I was told that I had been selected to recieve a $10,000 grant from the government. When the call came in today from 713 931 3825 (houston) it was to the fact that I was in trouble with the IRS and that I was in legal trouble.and they were going to arrest me. I proceeded to say this was a scam and was told that it wasn't. The " gentalman" on the other end would NOT provide me with any information to WHY, and told me I had to call some "detective" I told him that if HE had my phone number.. to give it to the "detective" and have him call me in person!
- Caller: Department of legal affairs
- Tara Benton| 1 replyI have had numerous calls from this number stating that her name is Sharon Martin with the Department of Legal Affairs at the US Treasury Office and that she is calling to inform me of a legal action that has been taken against me. She says that she would suggest I get an attorney to call her back as to me calling her will end up in a legal mess. Then she says I am looking forward to speaking with you. Are people really stupid enough to believe this crap? If there was a legal action started against me, I would receive written notice not a phone call. THIS IS A SCAM SCAM SCAM. Please do not fall for this. I have the messages saved on my phone and I am reporting this to law enforcement.
- Dawn replies to Tara BentonI received the same message from Sharon Martin 2 days in a row. Who do we call to report this? I am so glad for Internet.
- GeoffI got this call today from a hostile man with a heavy Indian accent. Said the same U.S. Treasury dept etc.. I will be arrested in 45 mins, I said what do you need my cc number? No problem, a million? I've got that, how about I give you 2? I said see you in 45 minutes then? He said why are you laughing, what are you a joker? Well folks, I parted with no money and it has been 2 hours. I am still free. Are you even trying Satish/Vijay/Murali/...?

got a call from Sharon says she is calling from the Department of Legal Affairs at the US Treasury. This wouldn't be the first time they called. First for my husband and then for me. I want to know how these people got my info, and how to stop them.- Caller: 713-931-3825
- Tamianth replies to Grace| 1 replyAlmost all these calls are coming from India or Pakistan and there is no stopping them at this time short of buying a call blocking device or phone. Google your name and number, any place such as spokeo that shows up, make them remove it.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
