called me saying that they have a "legal" case against me and were going to have me arrested. caller was very vague and was not specific at all. did not include the name of the company, who she was, or any sort of identifying information, just the number.  caller sounded like a robotic female voice.

Total scam.  Threats of arrest made by people calling you out of the blue are always fraudulent and are usually made by debt scammers.   Especially so, if the caller refuses to give any information.  Block the call.  Don't talk to them; don't give them any information. Threats of arrest are made for the purpose of scaring you into paying them something.   If they have a valid debt against you tell them to send you a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.   Of course they won't do it.      

Debt collectors have no power of arrest and no influence on the criminal justice system.  You cannot be arrested for ordinary civil debt.

Received call on 09292014 stating that they have legal case against me and an arrest will be made. I know it was phony.. I added number to call block.

got a call from 1-714-248-0379, said," a police officer will be by my home to arrest me if I don't pay a debt they say I owe". They have E-Mailed me from some company called ACS or ASC saying I owe them 900 from a payday loan company. They have not shown any proof I have ask for, said," they would press legal charges against my name & #SS . I don't know what to do any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I received a call from home, my husband told me that some law office was looking for me...hummm... and he gave me the number to call back. Whe I called a Hispanic female answered the phone and immediately hug up once I told her who I was.  I called back several times...no answer; then finally a man answered and told me that I had reached the office of Attorney John Hill and he was Attorney James Long. He said that they have 2 aligations against me and I need an attorney if I didn't have one they could appoint me one. He was very vague as stated above and started talking robotic as though he was recording the conversation. I asked him if he had the correct person and asked him for my complete name, date of birth and address. He only gave me my address which was correct; then suddenly he became agitated and told me that he didn't have time for games, he would have the police to come pick me up on my job etc....I hung up.  Of course this frightened me, so I called the police dept and was told that it was probably a scam trying to get money out of me.  I felt relieved because I'm not a criminal, I go to work everyday, go home, pay bills & go to church. So they better try someone else, I'm not the one....better yet they need to be tracked down and arrested.

Websites like this are so useful. I received a call from the same number but I didn't answer. they left a voice mail which, like what was mentioned above, said they had a legal case against me and were going to have me arrested. I honestly was terrified I had done something terrible without realizing it. I'm so glad I googled the number before I called back. Thank you all for posting and helping me realize that this is a scam.

My wife got a call from 714-248-0379 and it was the same story as above. Will get my Attorney to find out where the call was made from!

I got the same voicemail

I also just received a call from this number. Caller ID says it's from the orange county area. The person left a voicemail in a robotic female voice saying I would be arrested at my home or office. Very threatening and scary, especially as there are no details, and it leaves one wondering if they made some sort of mistake. Then I realized, why would they warn someone that they would be arrested? Wouldn't they just arrest you? Silly.

Same with me. They used multiple accents-- Latino, very southern and Asian. They were vulgar. It scarred me at first until I googled this site. Thanks for the info

recorded female voice with slight jamaican accent telling me the same "you will be arrested at your work or physical home address" "legal case against you" "see you in court" --all that. Phone number she gave was somewhat electronically distorted at the end but was recognizably the same as in my caller id. Panic attack, ahoy! /but that's well faded now that i've found all y'all.

BTW,  I did call back and some poor guy named James answered twice and told me i must have the wrong number.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

•is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
•refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
•asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
•exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

•Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

•Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

•Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft – charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

•Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate – but you think the collector may not be – contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

•Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I just got a phone call from 714-248-0379 and I must admit it scared me for what reason I don't know. After reading everyone's comments here I do agree this is a scam call. Not a clear information about what the legal case against me was. Called it and no one answered.

Got the same message. It said I had a legal case against me and that I would be arrested at my physical address or my work place For more information to call the number and ends it with "see you in court".  I called it and it said the person you are trying to reach is on the phone then it beeps around 3 times then you site there listening to nothing like you are on hold.  I hung up after about 3 min.  It's amazing the effort people are making these days to scam people out of money and will use any tactic possible to get you to buy into it.

Got the same call, called a John Hill Legal offices, I hung up.  I then called back and it was the normal home answering service--no biz name.  Googled this and will be not answering those calls.  What jerks.
