I got a phone call saying that I would be arrested over some past debt that had not been paid.Told that I owewd $800.00 and some odd dollars and that the amount would be $8000.00 if I did not take care of it today.They had a lot of my personal information and I am scared silly.This is from the john Hill law firm in Oakland California.Should I be concerned about this it is very scary!

I received the same phone call today and it is a Scam, do not be afraid, no one can just arrest you, look  up his phone number and you will see how many people they are harrasing.

Today I received a call from a guy named John, threatening me and saying that I have serious criminal records and will see me in court. This is a scam call!
I just report by phone Federal Trade Commission.

I received a phone call at 12:30 pm,I doubt answer because I was working.They left a voicemail,the voicemail said that I was going to be arrested at my home or workplace in a couple of hours.So I called them back some lady picked up the phone and told me it was due to depts far as 6 yrs back,And also said that ocr was eligible,meaning I couldn't take care of it out of court.So I ask her for a  ss#,She told me as long as she had name,bday,address she didn't need ss#,then she hung up on me.So I tried calling back about 20 times,finally got through and went through the same sh#t,She said that they"re sending record to the city police.I'm mean it scared the crap out of me.I think that is a bad decision of whoever is doing this.

Listen to their horrible foreign accent. These calls do not originate in the United Stated, they are just masked to seem like they do, and do NOT follow the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. I got a call but they can't do [***] because i just filled bankruptcy the other month. I even told them that and they laughed. I asked what police department do i turn myself in at, since they claim they know so much about me, and i can hear them get even angrier to try to scam me out of money.

Seriously????? ROFLMAO... They left me a message and I called back. The idiot couldn't even pronounce my simplest and easiest common American name correctly. I won't even waste my breath talking to these "punks" as it is obviously some illegal collection scam based outside the US.

Look, go ahead and file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) or the FBI, but it will not matter nor do any good because these scammers are obviously not in the US.

Hate to say this, but once they know it is a valid number, the calls will not stop. You are better off changing your number or using an app or your phone settings to send the calls to voice mail without even ringing through. Some phone providers offer call blocking services, but for a cost.

Scam, scam ,scam. You cannot be arrested for a debt owed, if you even owe it in the first place . Block the number from your phone. Unfortunately our personal info is being passed around, and once these scammers get a hold of it, they will try to do or say anything to scam you out of your money. Dont fall for it.

Report the number.  When you challenge them about the law they will hang up on you!

I just heard my VM and that [***] recording said the same BUT i'm not scared!!! I called back and told him I was a commissioner of my city........ guess what? they hung up!!!!!  Harass them back!!!! tell them you have their information and your GANG  family members  hahahahaha will kick ass!!!!

I got a called from 714-464-6852 couldn't answer left me a message stating I owed some amount that if didn't call them back the police would come from me to work or home..what kind of s----!!! called them back to give them a piece of my mind n no answer busy busy really!!! dam!!! guy calling trying to scare me no way!!!

So I also received a call letting me know I was going to be arrested at home or at work... I don't answer these calls anymore I add them to the Reject list on my phone... They spoof numbers... They call from all over the place... A legit business will come up when you type the phone number in Google... Please do not give these people anything... If it's not on your credit report it's a scam! Been scammed once before from a place just like this... Report them to the FTC... You cannot be arrested for a debt you are owed! Period... It's not a criminal case

I just received the same voice mail as everyone above.  I'm going to be arrested!  I immediately check 800 notes.com and am grateful to everyone on this website for their comments.

i just got the same call and  try calling back and stated that the person was on the other line, they did leave a message stating i will be getting arrested at my home or work place, i was really scare. what should i do?

What to do?? NOTHING!!!  If you were really facing arrest, you would not be warned.  A process server would arrive unannounced.  Debt is civil so there is no jail, etc. - just a scare tactic to extort money.

I looked up the carrier of the phone line in CA, which is PacWest and emailed their abuse department as well.  Once they are notified that someone is using one of their lines against Federal Law, they are required to disconnect it.  I referenced this site for them to see all the complaints and told them I would be filing my FTC complaint and copy my email to them on it also.  In that way, the FTC will also know PacWest will be jointly liable for all future calls made once they were notified and failed to action.  Good Luck to all!
