Received this message at 11:00 am this morning, 10/22/14. But did not notice message until 10 pm tonight. His accent is very thick and sounds Scottish. Will not be returning the call.

“The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive. My name is officer Eric Foster(?) and hotline to my division of 716-242-7989. I repeat my number is 716-242-7989. Now don't try to disregard this message and do return the call. If you don't return the call or if I don't hear from your attorney either, then the only thing I can do is I wish you a good luck as the situation badly unfolds on you. Give me a call back as soon as you get this message. Thank you.”

Indian or Pakistani IRS scammers.  Ignore the call.

I received a similar message from 716 242-7989 yesterday October 22, 2014 from an "Officer Adam Scott" stating I  or my attorney should call back.

I just received the same call from this number stating that they were from the IRS and that myself or my attorney needed to contact them ASAP if not something bad would happen.  Do not ignore this call.  Like an idiot i called it back and he said do not take that tone with me and hung up.  Should I be worried?  Can they get information from me just calling them back?  Please help me on this.

Just received the same message.  Im not concerned.   Its most likely a scam.  anyone offical would be more professional.

I too got the call from Officer Adam Scott...same message as previously mentioned.  I got a call from someone different a few weeks ago, but with the same message.  My advice is to report this to your State Attorney Generals office.  These people are threatening us and should be dealt with.

I also received a call from 7162427989 just this afternoon. I checked here before doing anything. also I received the same message but a different name just 15 minutes before this call from 7035794878. They both were a little garbled and kind of sounded like computer generated voices. Not sure what to do.

In my previous message I apologize but I got the phone number wrong. The first number was 7035794876 and the call was from Officer Eric Foster. The second call was from 7162427989 and was from Officer Adam Scott. The messages for both were the same..

It's a scam. Stay away.

Got the same call today from an "officer Adam Scott." Took it as very threatening. Contacted State Police and they told me to "call us if this guy shows up." This (these) guy(s) are obviously impersonating law enforcement, which is illegal, and giving terroristic threats. I can't believe nothing can be done about this. Will probably call State Atty Gen. office tomorrow.

People from all over the country are falling victim to a recent phone scam by scammers pretending to be IRS agents. These IRS impersonators are calling up their targets, unsuspecting taxpayers and often immigrants, and demanding that they pay taxes they don’t even owe, by either loading money on a prepaid card or sending it via a wire transfer. Those who refuse to pay immediately are then threatened by the “IRS agents.” The threats include jail time, deportation, or the suspension of the victim’s business or driver’s license.

In order to convince people that they are real IRS agents, the scammers use several tricks including a program to make the IRS’s toll-free number appear on the caller ID, call center background noise, and false agent badge numbers. If the target is not already convinced, several callers are able to report the last four digits of the person’s Social Security number. And this complex scam goes even further. Those who hang up on the caller may receive another call soon after from a scammer claiming to be a police officer or a DMV agent.

Never return those calls.   They are basically scammers.   More than one scam is operated from any one call-center .  If you return the call they think you might be vulnerable to other scams as well.  They like to pick on women, single mothers, the elderly and members of the immigrant community.  The IRS scam calls are not random.  These people are predators.  They have your financial and personal information.

Rule:

If anyone with an Indian accent cold calls you and

1.  threatens you or
2.  offers you something,

you know it's a scam and hang up immediately and block the call.

These calls are total scams run out of India.  First off, the IRS does not file lawsuits.  If there is a need for court action, the IRS makes a request to the DOJ which makes the final decision whether or  not to go to court-- usually to enforce a collection action of some kind or another.    See:   http://www.irs.gov/irm/part5/irm_05-017-004.html
But this only happens   after a long period of administrative negotiations with the taxpayer.   Before any court case would happen, the taxpayer would be well aware of it.   IRS is never going to cold-call anyone  and tell them  that a case is being filed against you  out of the clear blue sky.  
IRS has absolutely no authority over local police.  Local police and law enforcement are NEVER involved in tax disputes.     If law enforcement presence is needed US marshal are available.  
Secondly, over 90 percent of all tax disputes are settled administratively during an appeals process.  
This is just a scam where somebody cold-calls, pretends to be IRS and  tries to scare you into paying money to somebody by Green dot money pak which is untraceable.
Ignore the call and do not return it.  Block the number.

Is there anyone I can report this to?  I sent a reply in the form of a text stating that they were contacting an incorrect number..  How do I protect my financial information?  does this mean that they for sure have access to my financial information?  Or about me personally? Im angry.

Fortunately my best friend is close friends with the Ca state attorney general.  I will be making that call right now.  thank you!

iRS agent Adam scott. I also got a similar message from phone number 2028641309

received same exact message....my guys name was Justin Williams.....not with that accent
