- TH| 4 repliesJust got a call similar to Ron's. It did not identify me personally. It was a recorded message from someone who said his name was Justin Williams, that he was calling from the IRS, that I must have my attorney of record or myself call 716-242-8520 or that he would issue a warrant for my arrest. It sounded like a boiler room (could hear others talking in the background) and "Justin" had a foreign accent (perhaps Indian?). Sounds like a scam to me. You'd think that impersonating the IRS would carry a big penalty...I'm planning to report it right now!
- Caller: ?/IRS
- jeffsame scam as above. Beware. they are going after elderly people I believe.
- TomJustin Williams called and represented himself as a tax fraud investigator threatening arrest unless I returned his call and resolved a tax matter. I actually returned the call. Turns out Mr. Justin Williams can't be bothered but another "agent" from the tax fraud department can help me if I will only provide certain information. When asked what tax fraud department he worked for there was a long pause with a third party in the background coaching the "agent" on what to say. I repeated the request to speak with Justin Williams, who represented himself as being with the FBI. The "agent" hung up with no response.
There is no doubt this scam would work on my 88 year old mother. It is a shame we can't talk to Mr. Justin Williams' mother.- Caller: Tax fraud Investigation department
- jo replies to BradI did too
- jo replies to TH| 1 replyThat's what just happened to me, it scared the crap out of me, my husband just got deployed a couple of days ago. I am here with my children thinking what is going on, I thought any minute a police officer was going to come to my door and my babies would be all alone. I been crying, it's not like I just contact my husband. Thank goodness for these message boards. I am already beside myself with my husband leaving and now this, this has to be illegal. I'm still trying to calm down.

- CWG40 replies to joCommon scam. Originates in India. The calls are not random. They have all your personal and financial information. They pick on single women, single mothers, the elderly, and members of the immigrant community. They also pick on anyone they think might be vulnerable from having financial difficulties at some point in their lives.

Report them to local authorities. Try to get the word out to other members of the military dependents community to be on the lookout for these kinds of calls. Anyone who calls you with an Indian accent either (a) threatening you (b) offering you something is most likely engaged in a scam of some kind. Don't fall for it!
I'm an enrolled agent for the IRS (inactive) and I can tell you that tax disputes are a civil matter and are between the IRS and taxpayer. IRS NEVER initiates contact by call. Paper only. Police are NEVER involved in income tax disputes and 99% percent of tax disputes are settled by negotiation. IRS has absolutely no authority over what police do or not do.
Beware. Take care. Sadly, you can expect more calls from scammers from India. Don't pick up on calls you don't recognize. Get a call blocker.
As I say, report this matter to local authorities. This is nothing more than an extortion attempt. - CWG40 replies to Johnnie Ray LaySee: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Warns-of-Pervasive-Telephone-Scam
They are scammers located in India and beyond the reach of US law.
Still report them. If enough people do, maybe something can be done. - CWG40 replies to NellyCommon scam. Originates in India. The calls are not random. Don't call them back. Unless you're going to tell them to go to hell. If you do, make sure you shout it. Tell them they are not getting one Rupee! Yell it out to 'em. That usually shuts them up for a few seconds.
They are picking on women a lot.
