The message left on my machine said it was from Greenburg, Stern and Associates and they want me to call 888-704-9227. They claimed to have been retained by someone and that i need to call. However they don't leave a name of who they want to call them back and since i'm not the only one that lives at this house i'm not going to return their call

I received a call on my cell phone from a Mr Jackson looking for another person that IS NOT me.  I let it go to voice mail,  Mr. Jackson said something about a fraud case out of TX I live in PA.  I did my own research and found that the law firm is a collection attorney out of Buffalo NY.  However there is no info about them listed on the BBB web site.  I  e-mailed my consumer protection attorney.  He emailed me back just now saying that they were a junk debt collector and to block the number, which I have done..

rec'd a call from this # to on husbands phone.  guy said his name was james sims but did not leave a company name.  left a return call number listed to moonlight apartments in california.

The message left on my machine said it was from Greenburg, Stern and Associates & call 888) 704-9227.  I received a call from that 2nd number last week & I knew it was a debt collector looking for some other person.  I had this number for 4 1/2 years; they said this person gave my number 2 years ago.  He said he would remove the number from their list, but I was called again today from that first number above.  I received over 2 dozen calls over the last 4 years from different debt collectors or companies looking for this person.

I just received a call from this number. I didn't answer the phone and they left a message to call 888-704-9227. I was also provided with a docket number. Who are these people?

Greenberg Stern & Associates.  They are a scam payday loan debt collector who calls bought/hacked accounts.  My attorney says tell them "I know you are a scammer, and you are wasting your time because you won't get any money out of me."  Hopefully, they'll get the picture and leave you alone.

I received a call from my pastor stating that he received a call from Greenberg Stern and Associates stating that needed to get in contact with me concerning a bounced check.  They also call my next door neighbor.  They both gave me the 800 number and I did return the call.   I asked the gentleman how did he get those telephone number he stated that they hired a private investigator.  They had my banking information and other personal information. The reason I believed it was a scam.  The date and the company he said I worked for during that time did not match up.  I had worked for that company but it was a year before.

If you really had a bounced check, your financial institution would have sent you a letter about this.

Someone named James Franco has called me a couple of times saying to call back because he wants my statement on this matter before he sends it back to the creditor. Says he's an investigator with Greenberg Stern and Associates

Unless your pastor is a next door neighbor, that doesn't make a lot of sense.
I don't recall ANY loan, credit app, or employment app asking the name of my church and/or pastor.
Seems if their PI could who your pastor is and his number, they could have figured out your address and phone number.
....wierd.

I would also suggest that everyone makes themselves aware of the rules in the FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT.--http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/fdcpact.shtm

There's a requirement in there about a DEBT VALIDATION LETTER a credit agency is supposed to send.

ALSO, check your state's STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS (SOL) on different types of debts.  Depending on the state and type of debt, it seems to range from 3-15 years.
Payday Loans are illegal in some states, so if you're being accused of that, check your state's laws.
Your State Attorney General's site should have some good information and/or a phone number you can call and ask questions!

I'm not real sure what to make of this, I suppose Greenberg could have the number now, but the only thing besides complaints about the 888-704-9227 number is that is does/did belong to some apartments in CA?
