just got a call from this number said that i needed to contact them within 48hrs beacause they were going to serve me at work or my home and to call 7163321643 i wanna now what this is

ANGIE its a scam so dont give them any info and let them know u know its a scam!! report them to the FTC and your local authorities. just trying to get money out of people who do work for a living and dont have to steal others monies to live on.

I got a call just like Angie.  Would really like to know what it is all about myself.

I received a call saying that papers were delivered and I have a court date pending but little do they know that my husband is a sheriff deputy and if I were going to be served papers, he would have them.  They call my job but not my home.  Not sure what exactly they want but I have received no paperwork from them.

LOL Yolanda that is funny.  How do we get these people to stop calling and harrassing the people that work hard for there money?

Even tried to google the name of the Law Firm they supposedly work for and nothing even comes close!

i've recieved a call as well its not a scam, i had the same call saying i was going to be served, sure enough two days later after ignoring it i was served it all depends what address they have for you if they have the incorrect one it won't take long to find your current address, i wish i would have taken care of my debt earlier :(

A real debt collector doesn't call ahead of time to tell you your gonna be served!

I used to serve papers to people. Did I ever call them? heck no! we had other ways of finding out if you're home or not.

btw, the court needs to know the defendant has been properly served. So papers aren't submitted willy nilly. They set court dates b/c come hell or high water, they Know they can serve you before the court date.

So IF you do get a real call and they're dumb enough to tell you you're getting served- they're doing it b/c they have enough info on you that they Will find you at home, at work, at the grocery store, your girl or boy friend's house, your mom's or dad's, your school, the local pizza place....

but chances are, you're not going to get a call that you're being served. you'll get that ray of sunshine when you least expect it.

So I got a call from this place today and for the past few days actually, and they leave the same pre-recorded message. They never say who they are looking for either.  

My vm said it was a "Tim or Jim? Johnson from Hogan & Wineburg & they needed to speak to me pertaining to information regarding a packet that was delivered either to my home or place of employment to go over pg 15 of the packet.  To go over hearing dates & times which are coming up quite rapidly. Please contact me or my assistant Julie, she will be there until 9pm Est if he was not available." (ph:855-276-1132) **when you call this number back, it doesn't work!!**

Then I got another one this afternoon. "This message is intended for ____ . We have documents needing a signature of acknowledgement. It is important that you contact Mr. Chuck Walsh or one of his assistants to recieve these documents and/or to reschedule the hearing that has been assigned to you. Failure to respond will result in your acceptance of any and all decisions made on your behalf. You may contact Mr. Walsh at 716-332-1643. When I checked my caller ID, it was the same number from previously (855-276-1132).

I have been unable to locate a legitimate company through Google named Hogan & Wineburg. I even tried several different spellings. In fact, all i could find were complaints and scam notices. I have not been served with any packet at my home or work. I think it very strange that they don't even know my name and use pre-recorded messages and it's not even a real person. I would appreciate any input that anyone has about this. In the mean time, I DID report them to the Federal Trade Commission and I put my numbers on the do not call list. It can take up to 30 days, I believe.

How do I report these [***] and find out who gave them my phone number?

If you ever ask for and get a live voice, ask the person you speak to for the bar number of the state in which they are licensed.  I'm fairly certain they will then hang up.  I recommend calling the bar in your state and in the state of New York and reporting all of the information you have and asking them to investigate an unauthorized practice of law claim.  What these people are doing is holding themselves out to be lawyers when they aren't, and that's a crime.

They just did a huge story about this kind of stuff on abc nightly news

I received the same identical MSG at work. I called the number back & had it removed from their list. It never said who they were looking for either. I told them it was a flooring company & to please stop calling!!!

Kara and Sunshine, I have also received several messages " to the letter" like yours. I am a cop and knew there was something fishy about the calls. Attorneys don't call like that AND they know your name unlike these low lifes.

called the number.  "grace rubenstein" answered and was pissed that i had blocked my number when calling.  she would not answer my simple question:  "what company is this?"

called again.  person answered "hogan and weinberg(sp?)" and got really upset when i asked her about why her company might have has ms. lewis call me today.  that's as far as i got on this call.

immediately called again.  next person to answer (paraphrase):  "[***]...hey [***]?  stop calling here!  do you know what the laws of harassment are?"  click.

still no luck finding out what hogan and whineburg actually do.

i'm having a terrible time finding any information on this company to even verify whether or not the name is spelled correctly.  perhaps i'll ask on another call.

person who answered immediately put me on hold: "hang on."

passed along to ms. balik, i believe.  my not taking skills are terrible.  said she works in the "after hours" department...woka, woka.  could not tell me what hogan and whineburg do...because..."I DON'T HAVE TO UNLESS I KNOW WHO YOU ARE!"  back and forth, back and forth...still no info.  then told me she also works in the "special needs" department and that must be why they sent me to her.

just. plain. rude.
