This is a fake debt collection company Robert James & Associates. See forum thread for their last phone number 716-242-7588 for information about these frauds. The address I found is 266 Elmwood Avenue/Suite 369/Buffalo, NY. I looked the address up on Google Maps and it appears to be the Stuyvesant Apartments building. These two idiots, Anthony Capolla and Roy Hamilton, must save a lot on overhead by working out of their tweaker pad...er...apartment.. Getting sick of this crap. Maybe I should shuffle off to Buffalo and pay these losers a visit. I'm so sick of getting phone calls from assorted dregs trying to rustle up some cash for their drug habits.

These idiots called me also. Sometimes they try and use a local number, but then ask you to call a completely different number. Do not answer or provide any information to them. They claim to be check fraud investigators!! It's nothing but a way to scam innocent people.

These people called me about a check I supposedly wrote. Yet they couldn't tell the check #, where it was written, date it was written or anything. When I started asking questions they got mad and rude. It's all a scam. They told me that if I didn't pay $750 they would have me arrested and that when it when to court I would owe over $3000. I told to have me arrested that way I could have 3 meals a day, air conditioning and cable tv and wouldn't have to pay for any of it. They hung up then.

I too got a call today with a recorded message telling me that I had 24 hours to respond to the call or action would be taken.  The phone number that came up on my phone was 716-543-9885.  I did not call back and if I do they will not get one cent out of me, unless they can prove what they are saying by sending be copies of everything for proof.

I did not call the phone number 716-543-9885 back but took their recorded message serious.  After reading your post they will not get any information from me unless they can prove to me that I owe anything, which will not happen.

I got scamed  about a year ago, from  people like this an believed them, I was scared of going to jail so i paid it, even tho i didnt have the money an had to borrow from other people for it, 3 kids an a single mom with no child support an a part time job. Now this number is calling my work threating the same crap, I will not do it again. that is why I looked up this number 716-543-9885. they are telling me they have a case number blah, blah, blah. just like last time i fell for it once, not again. Thank you for posting your comments they really help.

You may also want to print out this forum thread to give to your employer/HR Dept/manager, so they know you're being harassed by scammers.  Sorry you learned the hard way that law-abiding debt collectors do not work this way, and in fact, you can't be jailed for defaulting on a loan - and threatening you with jail/arrest is a violation of federal law.  I am glad that you didn't fall for it this time.  Please read some of the articles (under "Site Menu") on the right hand side of this page - there's lots of good information posted so that people can know if they're being contacted by legitimate debt collectors and also how to make sure you are not scammed out of your hard-earned money.

Got a few messages with a recording of 24 hour notice of intent. Then just got another call right back from a Ms. Porter. asked me to call back. gave me case number and what not and at the end said you have been notified mam good luck to you. Like what is that. I know my rights and will not be calling back nor giving them any money.
