Called my work this morning, said he was calling in regards to nsf funds on my bank account (don't even have a bank account) I asked who he was and he wouldn't tell me and said he was just the secretary and would transfer me. I said "Do not call my work again" and hung up. Sounds like the same M.O. as a company that pulled the same crap with me before called "Marvel and Associates" which are a total scam. Don't give these people any information.

I have had a message left stating they are calling to do a asset verfication and employment verification so that they can come serve me papers?  The lady rattles off a long reference number that i am to use when calling back so that I can verify my assets and tell them where I work.  Her name is not given a compahy name is not given the debt is not given etc etc.  So I just laugh and hit delete.  Like many I have outstanding bills but real bill collectors dont make calls like that.  So again hit delete and then I set them in auto reject.

Called my home phone about asset verification and serving papers. They said they were from M & S Associates. When I challenged their legitimacy, they cursed me out then ended the call. It's a scam number obviously. Don't answer it.

Called in regards to a loan and needing to verify SSN, place of employment, etc., stated they are a a law office, "MLS" wanted me to give a payment for a loan that I do not have. I asked him to send out a letter with all information, and was responded with "what do you want me to put on that letter" after I said send me a certified letter the man was extremely rude and sarcastic. I hung up the phone and they called me from a New York area code within 1 second.

The law specifies exactly what information needs to be on a dunning letter.  They do not have to send it certified.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter, email, or text (postmarked in the case of a letter) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. Unless they have communicated it to you verbally at the beginning of your conversation.  It also must contain the “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this communication must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.  If and when you get that communication you should immediately send that debt validation letter by certified, return receipt mail.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file complaints with the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.
