Another one from "IRS".  I didn't answer but he did leave a voicemail that I owe $5000 to IRS and needed to call him back at the same number as soon as possible.

Officer Raymond Francis also left me a lovely message at my work number saying I owe the IRS $5,000. I tried calling back just to see who might answer but just got a VM prompt.

I got the same phone call from Raymond Francis saying I owe $5000.

These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

Why isn't the phone company doing something about this. .. it major red flag if out of country people need a USA phone line. Where's the FBI in this? . It's all over the news an out government should be able to do something.  I laughed at the caller and really,  funny cuz o work for the IRS  and I owe nothing.  The caller hung up..

Says he's an "officer" from the IRS and that I owe $5000. This is obviously a scam. I don't make enough to even owe that much! How ridiculous!

Same loser called me. Said that I owe 5K. I told him to go [***] himself.

A recorded voice with a British accent. "Kate Williams calling from tax and crime investigation........"

Did say what company - automated system say it was the Tax & Crime investigation and before legal petition submitted needed a call back.  Didn't call & deleted message.

Just received the same call, here's is the kicker though I actually work for the IRS which they had no idea of knowing. I called the phone numb back and told the guy that I knew this was a scam and know that I have their phone number they are being recorded next thing Im talking to empty space & dialed back, phone just rings busy.   people please do not fall for this it's a SCAM!!!

This is the same old scam by our friends overseas - utter bull.  If you've got a VOIP or cellphone, start blocking numbers, because this'll be the first of MANY you'll receive for weeks, sometimes months multiple times a day.  Just keep blocking them, and eventually you'll go out of rotation.

They are changing it up now. Left a message telling me to call back for a loan I applied for!

I just got that same message left on my cell voice mail saying I was approved for a loan.  What a bunch of you-know whats.

Number just looks strange... I never answer, the caller never leaves a message... (718)303-2686....
