- ESmart| 6 repliesI got a message on my landline for the prior owner of my home phone number. The man states that he is calling from a company called Finders Keepers-a company that locates lost and unclaimed assets. He says the company has found an uncashed NY state tax refund check from 2006. They leave 718 363 0588 as a call back number. I can't be bothered calling back-not even for entertainment purposes. IRS website does not specify this particular scam.

- bronx to vermont replies to ESmart| 4 repliesI just got this call. Don't believe it. I have collected money owed to me from New York State before, through the NY State Comptroller's office, which is online. Google New York State Office of the State Comptroller. Go to their Unclaimed funds. Type in your last name, then first name. Try variations and other spellings....good luck!

- New Jersey residentReceived call from "Finders Keepers" about a NYS tax refund. I have not lived in NYS for over 25 years and asked for information as they already had my current address. Finders Keepers sent a form asking for my SSN. IT MUST BE A SCAM.

- tzReceived a message on our answering machine from Finders Keepers. He did not leave a name, but stated our name, and said we never received money for shares of an old stock we owned. He left the above number for us to call back. I did some research on line for Deborah Zirkind and Finders Keepers, and found it was located in Brooklyn, NY, established in 1998, incorporated in Nevada, annual revenue $110,000, staff of 1! Don't think I'll be calling back. I'll have my financial advisor check my proceeds. Be careful!

- JTWe received a call from Finders Keepers last week and paperwork claiming they located unclaimed assets in my name. They requested my SSN and stated they charged 15% of assets collected.
I found this to be a very interesting proposal as the assets they managed to locate were in my CURRENT, ACTIVE bank account. I'm thinking seriously about forgoing Finders Keepers valuable services as I pay next to nothing to access these funds on a regular basis. This is without any doubt a SCAM! - ElvisGot a call from 718 363 0588, stated they were Finders Keepers and they had a GHI Check for me. When I asked date of service or provider name they said they didnt know. They basicaly wanted my current address alledgedly in order to send me a form to reclaim the "asset". I advised them I would not discuss any personal info on a cold call to my phone number, They sugested I call the Better Business Breaue and have them checked out.
As sure as god made little green apples, that form they would have sent me would have requested my ss#.
I dont think Ill be calling back.
If they annoy me enough, they may find themselves the recipients of unusual and untoward occurences. The internet works for everyone, and you never know who you are dealing with. - Bobby| 1 replyMy Mom called me telling me that some man said he was from this agency and that he had money owed to my from my insurance provider GHI. Fat chance! I anything I probably owe them a buch or two. At first I thought he was just confirming my adress because he already has some sort of information on me and then I thought that this person probably is using an internet phone disguising it as a local call and fishing for information to use or sell. This is the second time I used this website to report a phone scam. When I was a kid there wasn't even so many scams and everyone had a land line!

- Rosie| 7 repliesCalled me 2/17/2010. I was skeptical so I went to the New York State Office of the Comptroller, Unclaimed Funds search: http://www.osc.state.ny.us/ouf/index.htm as suggested in a prior post and found the same account they had mentioned in their message to me. There is a claim form to print and mail directly to the NY state comptroller's office to claim the funds. Whoever these people are, you don't need them to claim the funds. I called them back and they were very condescending and snarky. You don't need them...if the funds are real you can just claim them yourself. I found accounts for some family members there as well, so I'll be letting them know to search the state site.

- Mag| 1 replyI too received a call and did as Rosie suggested. Went down the list and did find my name and the company that owed me money. I too found some friends names and called them. I wish I knew how much I am getting before I pay a notary to sign the form which is stated on the site.

- Scott ReevesDevorah Zirking @ 718-363-0588 identified himself as from "Finders Keepers" called at 10:20 a.m. April 14 to say that GHI owed us some money from an unclaimed insurance reimbursement check from 2-3 years ago. Confirmed our address, and said they would be sending a letter which we are to complete and return. This sent up a red flag for me as an obvious scam.
