Call in the middle of the night .... "from a convict"

I just got this same call but today. wtf is up with this

I got a call from this number today twice in a row. The first time I ignored the call, and it left no message. The second time I answer and it tells me it was from the inmate system and then a recording came on saying, "It's TJ," a friend of mine who often gets into trouble. It then promoted me to accept the collect call and I hung up not wanting the fees. The weird thing was, it was his voice. I notified his father of the call, but still no response from him or from anybody who might possibly know of where he is. It's weird that the call came from Texas though, simply because we live in the valley of California and he doesn't have a car or money to get somewhere so far away. I'm still waiting from a response to hear if the call was fake or not.

Turns out the call was legit. TJ is in fact in jail, but I still have yet to find if he's in Huston, Texas like the call said, or if he's around town.

I received a call from this number last night at 1 am. the recording said that it was a collect call from  a Collect call from an inmate at the St Louis corrections institute, they gave a foreign name an I just hung up.
It is a scam. St Louis area code is 314 this one was 718.

Repeated robot calls ( every 10 minutes) for some inmate at some institution. Informing phone company for a trap.

This is not a scam..  it is in fact from a correctional facility.  It is a 3rd party calling company the correctional facilities use for inmates to call out to ppl.  They want you to set up a prepaid account so these inmates can call you whenever they want if you answer the phone.  I know this because my soon to be exhusband is in jail and has been for 6 weeks now - he calls over and over and over from this # to my phone...  everytime the # calls and you do not answer it leaves a voicemail message and when you do answer it is an automated message trying to get you to set up the prepaid account...  IT IS NOT A SCAM!!  It is a central calling location - a set # used for these outgoing calls..  the # is not specific for a certain correctional facility as some have posted..  they can be in any facility in the US and the facility uses this specific company for their inmate collect call phones..  there are many many many companies that do this for correctional facilities all over the US..  I know of 4 different companies from 4 different correctional facilities out of TX..  so if you dont want to talk to them..  just ignore or block the call...  as i have done..
