Called California at 8PM. No message. I called the number back and got a recording that the call couldn't be completed as dialed. Hung up and the same number called a minute later. Obviously a scam.

4/8/14 @1450 hrs. got a call on my cell that I NEVER get solicitation calls on.  Caller sounded like they had an asian or indonesian accent.  Something about "Highland Rewards" or "Research".  Knew what metro area I'm in.  When asked how they got my number, she disconnected.  I called back from my work phone and got a recording that the number is disconnected.

8:45 PM on a Friday, got a call on my cell phone from this number. It was a woman - possibly Korean (?) but speaking very good English. She started saying "First of all, you don't need to worry, this is not a sales call" and I hung up.

I hung on the call for quite some time trying to figure this one out. They claim to be Highland Resorts and are inviting to a travel agency grand opening at the Denver Merchandise Mart. They gave a full address and phone number (800-628-9180). They asked if I wanted either tickets or a free cruise. Playing along, I elected the cruise. They said that I will be getting a free cruise for two and round trip tickets. They didn't ask for any personal information other than name and to answer if I had a visa or mastercard. They scheduled me to come to a presentation on Friday at 2:00 PM. They said that if I watch the presentation, and no obligation to purchase anything, then I will get a free cruise and airfare. They provided their address as 451 East 58th Ave, Suite 1156; Denver, CO 80216. When I go, I am to watch an audio-visual presentation, no strings attached, and get a cruise. They then said that they will be calling me back in ten minutes to confirm my attendance. I assume this is where the scam will come in. If I hear back, I will update further.

update. They called four times while I was typing this. The first three were blank messages on my voicemail. The last was a message telling me to call them back at the 800 628 9180 number for my confirmation code. I called that number. It rang about 15 times and then got a fast busy. I, too, tried the 720 number that they used to call me and got an out of service message. Clearly a scam, just trying to figure out the catch so I can tell all of you.

Similar to above. My iPhone displayed no name for caller ID but said the call was from Denver, CO. Indian sounding caller claimed to be from Delta offered me two free tickets. I said it sounded too good to be true and he said "Thank you" and hung up.

It sounds like everyone else is just as clueless about the catch as I am. If it becomes apparent I'll send another update. I hope its not one of those that charges insane fees just for picking up.

They called me and also offered me two plane tickets. I told them I would go and got my confirmation number etc. I asked them for a website and they gave me http://www.highlandresorts.com. I looked and there wasn't one single testimony from anyone having a remotely american name as well as all of the resorts listed were in places I have never heard of.  My husband and I laughed at the obvious scam. We were supposed to be at the seminar today. A man called (sounding Indian). I kindly told him I was unable to attend and he sharply asked "why?"  I said something important came up but thank you for your consideration. I them hung up. He called back. I did not answer. He called back three more times and I picked up. He said "I need to know what came up that you can't make it". I laughed and said none of your business do not call me again. He didn't. However the level of anger and aggression in his voice was unnerving. I will be calling the denver merchandise mart today to let them know that the people using their facilities are very hostile. The numbers they called me from are 915-261-0319 and 214-269-4343

Here is one variation of the scam:

You are told that you will get your free tickets, but only after you attend the presentation.
During the long and boring presentation, you learn that you are ELIGIBLE to receive the "free" tickets, but only after you fulfil some requirements.
One of the requirements is that you give them your credit card number, plus some other information.
You then learn that the tickets are not really free.  You must pay some registration fees, port fees, handling fees, taxes and other charges... all of which add up to a significant dollar amount.   As you noticed, the destination sites are not very well known.  The travel method might be via "Fly By Night Airways" or the Titanic II or similar conveyance.
If anything truly free is given away at the presentation, a shill (not you) will win it.

Got a call from (303) 415-2514 first person with heavy accent and could barely understand them so I played along until they asked "I bet you are wondering about the catch - correct?" then I asked who this was and got "Highlands Rewards" and then "Highlands Research"
She switched me to her manager and after he spewed the same pitch as the first person, I said I wasn't interested and then he snapped back at me saying "Why are you wasting my time?" And I replied "Because you called me and all I want is simple answers instead of a vague pitch about something for free."
He hung up and then called right back. and i rejected the call
