Called saying they are from dept of treasury and we owe on taxes. Never asked for anything just said I had a warrant out for my arrest and the authorities would be at my door in45 min, then hung up on me

Get constant calls from 727-499-8343 saying i owe money to us treasury (not true). He says" help us to help you".  I have tried to call back to tell them to stop but it always says mailbox full.  So frustrating!!!!

This is probably the 6th different phone number this scammer, "Steve Martin" has used to call us. I called the number back and told him to stop scamming me and the thousands of others. I asked if he thought people were stupid and everyone knows he's a fraud. To that he replied, "you are an uneducated woman", lol!!! I'm excited for the day when this as$&@"$ finally gets caught and shut down!

This is a fraudulent call stating that legal action is being taken against you from the U.S. Treasury dept. Caller has heavy Indian accent

I just insult their mothers and sisters, usually riles them up pretty good. Wait until late, block by using #67 then call them back with a barage of insults and profanity. Its quite theraputic.

Feel a little bit bad for this poor Indian guy that has to recite his poorly written script about legal action a million times a day. He's wasted his time leaving that message on my voicemail 3 times in the last few days.

What a joke! Steve Martin, haha!! This guy uses the same recorded message to call everyone on his list.  If you call back, he will try to threaten you, probably to see if you give in to his scam.  Best advise is to report the number to FTC.gov and add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.  Also, here are some other phone numbers to look out for from "Steve Martin":  619-947-7096  415-506-1287  605-301-4590.  Received calls from all of those numbers, Steve Martin, US Treasury.  Block them all, big help

We are constantly getting calls from this number "to avoid federal prosecution" and "help us to help you" crap. We never call back number 727-499-8343 because we don't want them to know they have reached an actual phone.  Why can't something be done about this harassment?!?!?!

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427).
