- AnonymI called this number back & it said it was from the Public Awareness Fund of something ( couldn't understand the name). Wanted me to leave my phone number & someone would be with me. I did so I could tell them to quit calling & remove my number but then it just hangs up on you. Jerks!

- Don't Be Scammed!| 1 replyThis came up on my caller ID as "POL PROT FUND." What this translates as is, "Police Protection Fund." BULL! They are nothing but scammers and not really working in the name of the police. The police are lucky if they see .02 to .10 cents of every dollar collected. The rest goes to the people calling you!
If you really wish to support the police, CALL THEM and ask them where you should send your money. They will give you the CORRECT info that will see the MAJORITY of the money going to them rather than to the people collecting the money.- Caller: POL PROT FUND

- JoAnn Green| 3 repliesI live in Indianapolis, IN, why is anyone calling me from this area of Florida? Remove my name from this call list.

- A Nonny Mouse replies to JoAnn GreenREPORT THEM TO THE REAL POLICE !
I got the same call from them last December claiming to be the "Police Protective Services" looking for donations. Last year (or the last couple years) they were calling from (217)-303-8800 I reported it to the local Sherriff's Office at that time, and they said they already received several complaints about them.
I just looked that number up on here and found they were still calling people from that number up till last month. Maybe they still are yet. I just posted a note on that one today letting people know about this new number, and figured I might as well post on this one too letting people know that it is the same scam still running.
Have a little fun arguing with them, *69 the number like I did if you don't have caller ID, and by all means, Report it to the REAL POLICE so they know it going on locally and can warn others in your community. - MebbersGot a call from this number. No one responded when I answered.
- WiseGot a message from "Police Protection Fund". Called ba k just to see who was calling. Could hear people in the background calling other people and they were trying to sell insurance. A major scam setup I bet!

- Midori Simmonsto report unwanted call... I am at work and don't appreciate call like this...
- Diana GeorgeI am in Ohio and received a telephone call late last night from someone in Florida posing as a police officer from the Police Protection Fund. They were asking for a pledge from anywhere of $25 to $100. This is NOT a police officer. I cannot believe that this type of organization would be allowed to solicit illegal representation of the police department/officer. If that would have been in person, there would be an arrest! The only thing one can do is block the number.
- Caller: Police Protection Fund
- godmother22 replies to Don't Be Scammed!I just got this call, too! Caller ID says it is "Police Protection Fund." Said my Mom gave 25.00. Called my brother, who is a REAL cop,and said it is a [***] call. Scammers!
- susan replies to JoAnn GreenYeah, why are they calling from Florida? What do they care about Ohio police problems? I should have asked that question to see if they would just hang up.
- okeedokeThere are a million ways these telemarketing companies get our phone numbers. Once they get it, they will hound you to death. And when they get no response at your number over and over, they sell your number with thousands of others to another marketing company. It never ends.
The phone service we pay dearly for, was never intended to be a tool of pesty telemarketers and scam scum. There has got to be a way to stop all their overbearing, harrassing and unwanted calls. My local phone service will block these calls ONLY IF COMING FROM WITHIN MY SERVICE AREA. Guess what?!! That's why these pests display out of state phone numbers on your caller ID.- Caller: PortRichie, FL
- Anti-ScammerAlways check your phone Caller ID first and if the caller is not a friend, your employer or business you know and trust, or from your local calling area, then never answer the phone ... let it ring while you go do something else. I'm surprised at the number of people that answer these scam calls ... are they really that dumb or clueless about scams?! Apparently people really are that ignorant about phone scammers after reading some of these comments.

- Mike-in-MD replies to steveThey are correct. The Do Not Call list only applies to sales calls. You have to tell charities to place you on their internal Do Not Call list. After I beleive 30 days if they still call you can file a lawsuit against them.
- Beavis replies to steveI was cursed out and hung up on. This is in addition to already asking my number to be removed from their list within 24 hours. It's been a week or more between calls, so I filled out a complaint about their tactics at fcc.gov.
To another poster, I am not sure the thing about charities and disobeying the dnc list applies. They are not a "charity", they are a scamming telemarketer pretending to be a charity. - brianThey (whoever they are) called and when i picked up they hung up before saying anything. I'm on do not call but they apparently ignore that. These type companies need to be gone after by the ftc and slapped with a good fine. I'm sick of these places ignoring the law.
