It is a collection company for medical bills

So, I'm just sitting here at home today and the phone rings...the automated voice says they want me to call them back about an important matter, and leaves the number 732-776-8800 and a reference number. I Googled the number, and it belongs to "ACB Receivables", a debt collection agency.  Now, as it turns out, just yesterday, I found this unopened letter from a medical outfit that was mailed to us in December saying if we didn't pay them, they would send it to collections. I think that's what it is...I already put the thing in my bag to take to work and pay it on my lunch break, so I'm going to ignore the call and hope the idiot doctor that referred me to collections tells them it's paid once he gets the check.

The whole thing's kind of stupid, because this particular specialist told us they took our insurance, and it turns out they don't, so now they get to bill us for the full amount which is sort of like fraud.

You are right about that.  Also, just to let you and everyone else know, when getting a doctors bill, especially a lab bill,  wait at least 3 billing cycles before paying. It usually takes that long for the processing. Also what I do, is pay (like you are ) the doctor/lab directly.  This way you can get a copy of the original invoice/service date for your records.  Plus more than likely they will work with you for payment.
I just recently called about a bill for $54 - it turns out I only owe $15!! Good Luck..
