I was called from this phone number and told I bought a vacation package a number of years ago for $498 for one person and now the second half of the charge was due which was also $498.

Since our life has chanced dramatically and we are not longer able to travel OR pay the fee, I did not even find out what or when I bought it.  Below is the name that came up on my phone.

I would really like to know who this was and if I am responsible for this fee that he said he would put on hold for 90 more days and then send it to collections.

I did a little "googling" and found a couple of reports.  Here is the link to the report on this number on the web site "Who Calls Me." https://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/7543072986.  Read the last post on that page from K.L. Hall.  Note that he says it is an attempt to UPGRADE for $598 from a vacation package he purchased previously.  He also talks about how rude the company was.  I don't know what you purchased previously but it's possible that this is just a marketing ploy to get you to pay more money or buy something you don't want or didn't agree to.  If they have a signed contract on which you agreed to make payments then ask them for a copy.  If no such paper exists, you owe them nothing and they are just trying to get more from you.  If they call again, ask for proof of a contract in WRITING.  Don't agree to anything on the phone and NEVER give them any credit card information.

One more thing, the number and several similar ones is associated with Tristar Marketing at this address: TRISTAR MARKETING ASSOCIATES L. 2700 W ATLANTIC BL 209. 754-307-2986.   The fact that this is a marketing firm also makes one suspicious.

Thanks for the info.  I realized after I hung up I should have asked to see the contract but was caught off-guard.  Will check out the website you have below.  I think it is a ploy as I almost never agree to paying money after the fact as I just may not have it as is the case right now.  Circumstances change and I really can't afford this or use it since I have a heart condition and can't leave to go to the US and my husband has Alzheimer's, so we are stuck to our home most of the time.  Will keep trying to find out we they are and hope I never hear from them again!  Thanks again for the information.

Don't like being threatened.  Said he was calling as I owe money.  Which I know is not true.  Then he said he had my credit card.  He said he was from a travel agency.

Shows up as NEWPORT on my caller ID. Years ago I used a travel agency in Florida. A group of agents left the agency and stole the client list which they use to scam former customers. I know this because I have spoken with the agency and with the commissioner of consumer affairs. The calls come from various numbers and names but they are all the same. A couple of agents have been extremely verbally abusive so I no longer answer the phone. After the first call, I cancelled all credit cards in case they did have my number. As it turned out they do have an old number because they stole the information from their former employer. Either don't answer if you have caller ID or hang up as soon as they start their scamming routine. Sadly, the scam has spread and I now receive calls from California so they either sold the lists or some have moved. Hopefully, the commissioner will complete his investigation and make arrests soon. What surprises me is how dumb they are. Why keep making calls...as many as 3 or 4 a day...to a number they know will either not answer, hang up, or let them listen to a noisy appliance until they hang up.

Got a call from 754-307-2986 asking about a deposit on a vacation package, wondering why we hadn't taken the trip, and saying we needed to pay the balance due to be able to take advantage of the discounted package.  We never made such a commitment in the first place.

I bought a vacation package from these people a few years ago. Now they keep calling and claim I owe them variously $498 or  or $996 for some additional vacation package I supposedly promised to purchase (I never did), and threaten to charge it to my credit card. Fortunately the card I originally used no longer exists.

These scumbags variously call themselves Specialty Travels, Special-T-Travel, Travel Options, Travel Partners, Newport Marketing, Newport Fulfillment Services.

If they call you, hang up. If you have mistakenly already given them your credit card number, cancel the card immediately and get a new one.

Got another call today from a rude person who claimed we owe money for a vacation package.  Added it to my list of such calls.  I hope that if enough of us document these, we can get the attention of the FTC, FCC, consumer protection agency,  attorney general's office, etc.  PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THESE CALLS WHEN YOU GET THEM TO HELP BUILD A CASE.

    Super Irritated
I got another call today (Aug. 21, 2014) from Newport Marketing, saying the package I bought in 2012 hasn't been used yet, and I paid $996 for it.  I told them the company I bought it from had gone bankrupt, I got my money back from the state of Florida and went on another trip and did not owe anything.  I said I did not want and could not take another vacation!!  He was very rude and pushy, and I hung up.  When he had called earlier he also had me talk to a woman supervisor, who was nicer but also insistent and would not listen to me.  Please find these JERKS and stop them!

I get calls from these guys about 3 times a week. Back story is my wife DID buy a vacation package from them years ago, we took it, got plastered with the 3 1/2 hour hard sell for a timeshare (which we just a forcefully declined). Was promised to be 90 minutes, but yeah....  Needless to say wife bought another last year for $199, and we hadn't taken it yet, and she passed away 2 1/2 months ago. I have told Tri-Star, or Newport, or whoever they are whenever they call, to remove my name from their lists as I am in no way interested in what they have to offer, and I won't be taking ANY trips since my wife passed. I have talked to Bill, Tricia, Martin, Sally, and supervisors Mike and Julie (who hung up on me today), but not before she told me she would take me off their phone lists. I don't believe that because Mike told me the same thing. I told them all that if I keep getting these calls, I will report them not only to the Better Business Bureau, but to any law enforcement agency I can get to listen to me, and I will do my best to charge anyone of them, or all of them with harassment.... I think I just need to find a way to block that number

I  did this before and checked the books, I paid for a vacation and it was only half paid for. In the event I called my lawyer and he told me I should pay it or wind up in court.

Calls are regular and aggressive.  We owe these people nothing, though made the mistake of purchasing a vacation years ago that we never took.  They are fraudsters I think.  To what agency can we report them?

800notes is not affiliated with your callers, we are not calling you either. 800notes is a forum for reporting who calls you and any information you may have about the call to share with other forum users. It is highly doubtful that your callers are reading here also. We can't stop anyone from calling you either or remove from a list.

Consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
