I have received numerous calls from various numbers beginning with the 757-prefix.  I have blocked every number that has called and it continues from yet another number. I finally answered ONLY to find out they have the wrong #.  They were asking for someone else.  The lady actually didn't believe that I wasn't that person and finally told me she was with a debt recovery company but never would say the name.  These people are really pieces of work.

Well what can I tell you? These guys (portfolio recovery) are genuine bottom feeders of debt collection industry. They buy old statute expired debt and through harassment tactics try to collect 10 to 30 cents on the dollar. Of course the minute anything is collected, the statute date resets to day 1 and their other outfits and ambulance chasers come after you. If you have noticed their letter of settlement is only for the debt with them, not original debtor or the next place they sell it to. The only way to fight these guys is to get with your state authorities. These guys know all the Federal loopholes.

    Wow calls alot
They call me all the time.  The bad debt I have is outside the statue and all they do is robo call me. I am so tired of actually making them a contact in my phone so I can reject them.  They just call back weeks later with another line.  They tried to call my old job that I use to work out over 4 years ago!!  Guess not smart enough to pull a credit report to see my current employment.  What idiots.  Whats really funny is we use to collect for this idiots when I did debt collection for an attorney in North Carolina.  They are all outside the statute and all we could do was call them once, send a letter asking for payment and if they didn't response we closed the file. Can't collect on after 3 years from the date of the last payment or charge or service rendered.  Has to file a Judgment int he county you reside to actually hurt you.

It appears these pieces of dirt have another new batch of numbers they are using to call cell phones.   They have hundreds, if not thousands.

Folks, be aware, not only do they buy written off debt that might belong to you, they will call & harass people who don't own it and never owned it!    If you have a number that used to belong to someone else, they'll hassle you, (this is my particular hell).  If you have the same last name as someone whose debt they bought, they'll hassle you. If you have a dead relative who once had a debt, they'll hassle you.  It's endless.

They will bully and threaten and try to scare people into entering agreements with them.   You don't have to talk to them!  Tell them to pound sand, (as my attorney once so eloquently said to me about junk debt collectors).

    They are scum. Nothing else.

    whatever
If they get you to say certain things, they can re-open the old debt. Best thing to say, according to my attorney, is to tell them to stop calling. Dont talk about ANYTHING else with them. Dont confirm or deny anything. Dont tell them anything except to stop calling. It is a federal crime to keep calling after that. They can be sued for harassment, but most people dont know their rights. Most lawyers will give you a free hour or 1 piece of legal advice if you ask. In my part of the world, there is a group called ApeLReD (Appalachian Regional Defense Fund) that will help people with free or greatly reduced legal stuff.
They called from this number that goes to a business in Virginia, but they call from all over the USA.

Scum bags. Good to know a lot of the stuff already written about them. And options on what to do about their calls as well.  They are calling me about a matter that was reversed by a business and then turned over to a collection service. It is truly frustrating and the issue is several years old now.

Yes, I just got a call from this number and had just received letters to collect for like 1/3 of what it was, and my had been closed for 15 years. I let my cell just ring because I didn't know the number. I typed it in and I found this place.

i recieved almost daily calls from Portfolio Recovery for a debt that was paid and settled over 13 years ago. So I decided to send a cease and desist letter along with my resolution confirmation of the original debt with the original credit card company. They still called. After having my lawyer call and then fly to one of their "headquarters". IE, a hole in the wall, they finally gave up calling. Then 5-6 months later, the calls continue. So I felt obligated to cause them some trouble. I find that contacting their "channels" and wasting hours of their time speaking a broken English and half the time pretending I thought they were contacting me to give me money they owe me finally got them to stop calling.
