These guys do calls for:
Caring for Our Children Foundation FireFighters Charitable Foundation Operation Lookout National Center for Missing Youth Washington State Narcotics Investigators Association National Narcotics Officers Association Coalition
A million other places, and the Fraternal Odor of Police here in VA. I found out this morning when one called while I was blissfully dozing. MPI is known in AZ to hire felons and under 18's for its call center. This is likely the source of their high-quality brand of customer service. They generally pay between $7-$9/hr. and you can apply in person!
A few years back, I had one tell me that if I didn't donate, he would send the cops around. I cackled, and hung up. When I saw they had recently said that to someone else, I figure this information should come to light. Call them, let them know what you think of these practices, and the practice of "diverting" money destined for charities into their own pockets.
mpi calls for non-profit groups so reporting them to the feds for the do not call list does absolutely nothing as non-profits and political groups are exempt from the dnc, your just wasting their time and preventing them from dealing with actual violations.
and it is true that 85-90% of money donated thru mpi stays at mpi, but they aren't stealing, the charities are fine with this, they pay nothing for mpi's services and get their 10 or 15 percent just for existing. mpi foots the bill for everything and all of their solicitors are supposed to disclose this if any one asks about how much money actually makes it to the charity in question. it's not really a scam, but anyone who knows this is undoubtedly going to chose to donate directly if at all. i'm not saying what they do is right, but anyone who just donates money without question when someone calls their phone can't expect anything better, and should expect much worse.
if you have any more questions about mpi i'd be glad to answer as i'm currently working at one of their call centers
We have caller id for a reason, and this company's repeated attempts at contact is reason enough to justify it! They call a least once a day, and now I've begun picking up, but just leaving the line open for a while until they--supposedly--give up. Very annoying, and probably legally actionable at some point. I have a couple of attorneys in the immediate family, so will check with them to see what they can offer in terms of advice.
I answered their call and they hung up on me. They called a second time but i didn't get to the phone quick enough to answer. I have received these calls before and they always tell me i donated last year, which i didn't. if you let them talk, you can always catch them in some lie. Seems there's no way to stop them. When i say my phone number is on the no-call list, they have always replied that they have a legal right to call three times, so i tell them they've already called more times than that; they hang up on me and i don't get calls for awhile, but it always does start again. I don't understand why they keep calling when they know you're not going to donate. Do they just like annoying people? It's a bad rep for the police and other good people.
They call two times a day & have been calling for about two months --I have caller ID and don't answer. If I do, I let them hear the radio that is on or say no and hang up.
The first time my husband fell for the police story and ther sent a invoice for us to give 25.00 and then dunned us. now that I have found this sight and what everybody savy about them I know that it is a scam.

Numerous calls from this # in past week. Caller id is "local number". Do they think we're stupid or what with an area code which isn't local! Please report these people because I think they are scammers. Many thanks.
These A-holes have been calling and calling. I blocked my caller ID with *67 and called it. It answers something about being a "Fund Raiser Information Center" and goes on to say they tried to reach me. If I enter my number at the tone they will call me back. When I heard the tone I entered THEIR number. Hopefully it is an automated system and will continue to call them in a closed loop reaching the same automated message over and over again. Ha Ha!!!
