This guy named Robert Sells tried to act like he was a groom and purchase our services.  He then wanted me to pay the dress maker with a money order since that dressmaker didn't take checks.  He actually overnighted payment to me, but I told him I would have to hold it for 14 days.

Tell him YOU don't take checks, and that he should wire the money to you.  Then see what he says.

this guy called himself John cole. He wanted to buy some gifts for his "wedding" but insisted on having me take a check from his "employer". Emails were sent back and forth daily and towards then end the verbiage began to sound differently.  Definitely a scam.

He's in the middle of scamming me right now.  Threw in some drama about his fiancée having a miscarriage. She has remained nameless, thus far. Things seemed weird when he wanted me to send his monthly paycheck to a manager of a wedding shop in Virginia with no address.

Guy named Victor is scamming me right now. Fishy wording and payment issued for his company. He gave me this number 757-606-8610 but tried to scam me through email.

Same here, calls himself Victor Jones, he wants me to play guitar at his wedding... Very strange wording, some story about working oversees and being around only for a week and laying out the whole payment plan. That last thing is what got me, any normal person would just ask how much I charge, how I would like to get paid, what's the deposit and to please prepare a contract. Not this guy, he had a precise plan... It was actually an email in which he left the number. Got suspicious right away... This is the email he used victorjones002@outlook.com

"Victor Jones" contacted me via the Wedding Wire website to play music for his wedding. This scam is easy to spot because of his language and bizarre story. Victor currently lives in Virginia but works offshore in Denmark, and is moving to Atlanta. He's on "holiday" now but will leave in a few days, so we need to be quick about securing services before he travels back to Denmark. Sounds like poor Victor has a lot on his plate, doesn't it?

Same thing happened to me today, super fishy.

We got the very same email and story, same location and date, except the location of the venue was in Westland, Michigan.
Definitely a scam.
Thankfully we didn't give him any important information!

Was contacted through "wedding wire" by someone claiming to be Phillip Thomas, to play for a wedding in Ohio, although he lives in Denmark, & his fiance lives in another state. He is vague about details, can't seem to come up with an address for the event, & doesn't care what kind of music we play. This supposed wedding is in one month & he wants to rush a check via courier.

I also got an email from "Phillip Thomas" with the same cell number. The same "offshore" location. "Becky Williams" the bride. 85% deposit. a Wedding Wire query.

"Thank you for your mail and the fee details it is within our budget so no problem okay.

I will entrust music selection for our event into your hands as professional.

Bride's name: Becky Williams, Groom's name: Phillip Thomas, The date is 12th of Dec.,2015, Address...

As regard payment, I can make a deposit of 85% available and balance to be collected a week before the event or on the event day.

Lest I forget, there should be a signed contract for this transaction. This can also be done electronically.

To avoid any further delay, send me your information i.e. the name as it will appear on the payment and also the address it will be received. I want my company to issue my pay check in your name in which I have earlier discussed with them and agreed on. You can contact me on 757-606-8610 while am back in the States, but will always keep in touch with you. I hope there will be no disappointment from you as experienced recently.

Please, do not send P.O. Box address as the courier service that will be used will not send such package to P.O. Box for security reasons. You can send your residential or office address but must not be P.O. Box."

Update: I emailed the property and they replied another musician also inquired about a wedding at the same address from the scammer.

I got the same story. December 12th in Massachusetts, Phillip Thomas and Becky Williams, Denmark, miscarriage, etc. I thought it was fishy, but he gave me a valid address and returned a signed contract. No payment, though. I have already cancelled the musicians.

"Steven McClean" contacted me on Wedding Wire looking for a violinist for his "wedding" in Salem, OR. His email regarding payment was exactly the same as what wedding musician included above. He didn't respond to any of my questions and supposedly he is going back to Denmark soon. Mmhmm. Nice try, "Steven"!

I'm glad I just googled his phone number, because he is apparently working on scamming me as well! I'm a guitarist, he's trying to hire me for his services and in the process of sending me a check… I was suspicious because he seems excessively polite and misused Grammar.

Same jerk thru wedding wire.  I'm going to try to report it to wedding wire tomorrow!

Same scam as the others listed here.  Name is said to be Steven Maclane but called and has a thick foreign accent. Wanted me to cash a company check and pay another vendor, while asking for sympathy for a miscarriage.

Glad I checked this out too. Got the same emails. Totally a scam :-(
