I believe this call which shows "Alert" in the caller ID is another marketing attempt by a medical alert service for older people.  They have called many times, even from a number within my local area code, but their numbers are from many area codes and always spoofed.

"ALERT" says my doctor referred this call to me because I am over 65.....really?  This is total B.S.  They say to press "1" to verify your address or "5" to notify my doctor that I declined this offer.  Like they really know who my doctor is, I am not even 60 yet.

If you press any number, they could gain controll to your phone or maybe charge your phone for overseas calls.  Hang up!

These people are relentless.  ALERT it says on my caller ID for this number. I almost fell for that one and answered. They all call whenever they want, morning noon and night. Can't someone do SOMETHING to stop these unwanted calls?

    >> I am on the DNCL <<

This post has two parts.  The =second= is for people who are interested in the realities of the Do Not Call list.  The =first= is for people who have difficulty understanding long explanations, but think the DNC list does not work.

    1)
The DNC list is not a magic switch attached to your phone.

The DNC list is intended to help stop calls from legitimate telemarketers.
    * Your calls were not from legitimate telemarketers.
    * Therefore, the DNC list will not stop those calls.

    2)
The DNC list does not automatically block calls.  Instead, it provides a list of  "do not call" phone numbers to legitimate, registered telemarketers who pay a fee for the list.

The DNC list exempts political callers, survey organizations,  charities and companies with preexisting business relationships, but these organizations might have their own, internal Do Not Call list (ask them).

The DNC list is not effective against criminals, spammers and scammers, because those people do not subscribe to the DNC list, and do not care if you are on or off that list.
Its purpose is to stop calls from legitimate telemarketers, and it does a pretty good job at that.  Just think ... if there were no DNC, you would be receiving incessant calls from BOTH legitimate and scam telemarketing callers!

    Here is your reading assignment:
    https://www.donotcall.gov/
    http://www.ftc.gov/news-events/media-resource ... try/enforcement
    http://www.ftc.gov/news-events/press-releases ... lemarketers-pay

Remember, the Do Not Call site is a good one to report unwanted calls from LEGITIMATE telemarketers.  The DNC list does not cover calls from criminal scammers & spammers.  To report those, visit https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/

If you receive calls even after reporting them (and waiting a sufficient time), then you should consider using a call blocker app, device or service as your first line of defense.  Google "call blocker" to see such things at Amazon or other sites.

I find some of the remarks posted about these ‘faux telemarketer calls’ amusing.  I put together a software program that has logged over 380 of these annoyance calls since 2012.  Those of you that let the calls roll to your answering machine, voicemail or worse yet answered the call you have just ensured you will get another of these calls.  Maybe not from the same number, but they’ve just identified your number as valid and passed it on.  Most of the initial calls originate from software (aka; ‘robocalls’) – once your number is identified as active, then a person may be there on the follow up calls.  If you have the capability to ‘block’ the number that called – that is the best action.  If you don’t have a blocking option, keep a phone with caller ID close by and simply hit ‘talk’ and ‘off’ simultaneously.  If you really want to block them – there is reasonably priced software that a layman can install.  Of the 380 calls I’ve blocked, only 16 have been in the last 6 months.  So the message is simple – blocking works….

A "free" alert necklace, yea sure, right after they get their hands on your personal info they're off to the races and you're S.O.L. A firing squad is too good for these guys, man I hate these types of calls so bad I can taste it. They have no shame whatsoever so neither should you, answer it and yell at them with every cuss word you can think of, threaten them like they threaten you.

Got a call from this number saying "Alert".  Apparently, this is for a medical device.  If I want a medical device, I will contact someone--don't need them calling me.
