- Daniel| 2 repliesCalled 2x today, claiming we have an unpaid tax bill from 2012 and threatening a search warrant from the IRS for our arrest.
- Shelly| 1 replyI got two messages today that said:
"Hi, this message is intended to contact you. my name is D. Martin and I am calling regarding affirmative (?) actions executed by US Treasury intending your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intention second attempt to award initial appearance before a registered judge or a grand jury for a Federal Criminal offense. My number is 760-298-7641. I would love you to cooperate with us to help us to help you" Sound like a scam? LOL
Looked this up on the web: fraud reports Ymax Oration scammers.- Caller: D. Martin

See: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Reiterate ... -Telephone-Scam - Stephen replies to ShellyWe received a similar message yesterday, threatening some sort of legal action. Speaker had some sort of accent, maybe Indian?
- jimGot the same message as Shelly twice yesterday. HA! Knuckleheads!!
Thanks for the link to the IRS site...good info.
"The IRS will always send taxpayers a written notification of any tax due via the U.S. mail. The IRS never asks for credit card, debit card or prepaid card information over the telephone"- Caller: 7602987641
- Uh...clem| 1 replySame message as Shelley (or as much as I could understand of it). Called the number (using *67 to block caller ID) and got a live person who answered, "U. S. Treasury, this is Fiona" (also with an Indian accent). This is not how the Treasury Department would identify itself or greet callers. Figuring I had an actual working number, I thought I'd report it to the IRS and nail these guys but the website seems more interested in reporting e-mail scams or, if it was a phone call, how much I lost due to the scam but no way to report an active fraud.
Tried calling again this morning before government offices opened and got the standard, "This number is not in service." Called again later and got, "The Magic Jack customer you have called is not available right now. Please leave a message."
I'm glad to hear that the Treasury Department is saving us money by using MagicJack®. - Uh...Clem replies to Uh...clem[Following up my previous post...]
Actually found the website to report such fraud at http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/ (Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration) --- big red button at upper right. - Kev replies to DanielGot the same message. Probably a terrorist. DO NOT CALL BACK or ANSWER from that number
