- fireplug| 1 replyClaimed they were from the department of legal affairs. The guy left a message and said his name was John miller and he strongly suggested that I cooperate or there could be legal issues. He sounded like he was from India. I love how scam artists think they can intimidate you by leaving messages like this. They don't know the type of redneck there dealing with.

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. - studogYes, this is a major scam. They use scare tactics, and when pressed, they can't forward you to anyone else.

- LVGirlI am in Las Vegas and got the same call yesterday on my voicemail. Dept of Legal Affairs Adam Walker. Told me I needed to return call with my lawyer. Be careful everyone I hope no one takes these seriously.
- Caller: Dept of Legal Affairs
- LoganYup, Adam Walker... called it and they keep track who Adam calls via phone number.
Female person that answered the call said I was calling the Dept. of Legal Affairs US Treasury in California - SmartladyI am in Pa. and just got a call on my voicemail from an "Adam Walker" from the "Dept of Legal Affairs". He was calling for my step son, advising he needed to return call with his lawyer. It's a total scam! The man was obviously from India and his English was pretty bad. I could hear a call center in the background. Ignore this. It's not the first time we have gotten calls like this!
- Caller: Dept. of Legal Affairs
- toosmartAfter receiving the same call from Adam Walker and then Danny Morrison, with their India accents, I listened to the B.S. and then said, "Ok, I know this is not how the IRS works and I don't owe any taxes. Please show me proof that you are who you say you are..." He replies, " Give me 45 mins and you'll know when you receive the warrant for your arrest.
People be wise...know your rights-The IRS reminds people that they can know pretty easily when a supposed IRS caller is a fake. Here are five things the scammers often do but the IRS will not do. Any one of these five things is a tell-tale sign of a scam. The IRS will never:
1.Call to demand immediate payment, nor will we call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill..
2.Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
3.Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card.
4.Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
5.Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS and asking for money, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or think you might owe, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS workers can help you with a payment issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to believe that you do, report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) at 1.800.366.4484 or at www.tigta.gov.
You can file a complaint using the FTC Complaint Assistant; choose “Other” and then “Imposter Scams.” If the complaint involves someone impersonating the IRS, include the words “IRS Telephone Scam” in the notes.- Caller: The Treasury Dept-Dept of Legal Affairs

- KenSame thing as everyone else. Adam Walker with an Indian accent telling me to call back or have my attorney call back. I shouuld call them and tell them I'm an attorney, what did they want. Instead, I faxed a complaint form to the IRS from the website Tamianth provided above.
- Caller: Department of Legal Affairs
- Call type: Debt collector
- KathyWe had a message from "Adam Walker" from "Legal Affairs".
Yeah - like a legal office would say "look forward to speak you" or "create a legal mess for you" or especially in the politically incorrect "have a blessed day"
When I called they answered "Legal Affairs, Department of Treasury" - when I asked "so you're with the department of treasury?" She hung up- Caller: Department of Legal Affairs

- SB| 1 replyAdam Walker called and left me a message saying I was having legal action against me and that I should have my lawyer contact him. Said he was from the Department of Legal Affairs. I called back and they said they couldn't find my name in their system or my phone number, then the girl hung up on me. Sounded like a call center in the background. All foreign accents.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
