Called with Caller ID: "Private Suite". When I got a live person on the phone, it sounded like a call center on the Asian SubContinent. The first reponse to my question who's calling was "Account Services". When I asked Account Services for whom, the reply was that they represent "American Credit Counselors" whose website is
www.acchelp.org. The 800 number for the website is 877-969-3328. I tried calling them but the recording said they were gone for the day. According to the website, that organization is a 501(c)(3) not for profit with a mailing address in Florida. Of course, they are going to claim exemption from telemarketing rules since they're alleged to be a 501(c)(3), and while that may technically get them off the hook, the abuse of the status to telemarket for profit services is as abhorant as those politicos who hide behind exemptions they've given themselves from the telemarketing rules to telemarket their campaigns. These people have called numerous times before with the same recording from different phone numbers to the point of harassment and have been sufficiently evasive (false Caller ID and not identifying themselves or providing a call back number in their automated recording followed by a call center operator who did not respond with transparency to the first request for the calling company's name... do I need to go on???) on this call and in the past to raise the yellow 'beware of scams and frauds" flag.
