kaygee - 21 Aug 2007Caller ID read JOHN MCDOMENK, 760-526-8145. When I answered I heard a recording: "Hi! This is James Roberts with LPM. I'm calling regarding your current mortgage…" That's all I needed to hear & hung up.

Janet - 30 Aug 2007I had that same name John Mc--- however the phone number was 760-526-8146 i think it's a mortgage telemarketer. I also called it back and blocked my number and there was a message that said to be taken off our list leave your number. I did not because I figured it was just an avenue to more garbage.

u54pe47 - 25 Sep 2007Same thing just happened to me, only when I tried calling the number back it asked me to punch my own telephone number in order to be removed from their calling list (yeah, like I was really going to do that). Instead I left a voice mail message specifically telling them not to call back again.
PS, I heard on the news the other day that it has been 4 years since the "Do Not Call" registery came out. Even if you intially signed up, apparently it expires after 4 years so you have to re-register. Kind of makes me wonder if that's why I've been getting a recent "surge" of unsolicted phone calls lately. I'm pretty sure signed up right when this option became available so it probably was right around four years ago.

It said it was a cellular call, so instead of calling it back, thinking it might be from a person I haven't heard from for awhile, I decided to google it first and see what came up. My answering machine picked up but the other line hung up and didn't leave a message.

The caller machine uses a female voice to announce itself as " Nass Collections of Canada trying to collect a debt " never leaves a number , and hangs up.
I Googled the name , 230,000 entries , none match. I don`t owe anyone in Canada any money , so it must be some kind of phone data scam.
I called the number back , got a recorded message about removing my number from their system , and they still call.

Rod @ Encinitas - 9 Oct 2007I believe you're dealing with a boiler room here. The numbers we're getting are 760-526-..... Reported here are 8136 and 8145, and I've just gotten a call from 8130. This suggests a bank of numbers, probably 100 of them. While a singular out-of-area number might be worth the cost, a whole bank of them would probably not be. So this boiler room is somewhere in the 760 area. It used to be that the prefix would pinpoint the city, but nowadays there's no guarantee since now a block of numbers with a given prefix can be put in any central office in the area code with only a minor bit of finagling. And the regulatory environment now permits it. *** As to time, I don't know. My display globe has a record of the Caller ID info, but not the time of the call. I believe it was some time between 7:30 and 8:30 PM, PDT.

I wasted a few cents, but worse yet my time to call them back (blocking my number with *67 prefix) and I got a recording saying "We respect your [request] to be removed from our contact data base. Please enter you number after the tone". I did not because of the comments by the others saying it may spark a rash of more calls.

jenny - 28 Jun 2008I am getting unsolicted calls -4 in fact from the same warranty place, plus my mom got 2 on hers, and we both have tracfone. The number is 702-520-1466. When I finally had enough I waited to speak to someone but before I could find out the company's name so I could harrass them they hung up. I put both our numbers on the do not call list but I still am getting calls and it's costing us minutes.
