Said if I did not call this number concerning the US Dept of Treasury, I would have to appear before a federal magistrate.  Very broken English.  Difficult to understand.

Received a call from the "said Treasury" threatening legal action but he had no name of the person he was trying to reach.  Turns out this individual was calling from India.   Be careful of this scam.

I just received this call also. At least they could get someone that speaks decent English if they want to appear to be credible.

Said if I didn't follow their orders that I may have to appear before a federal magistrate judge. Hung up on them and blocked the number.

More than likely the number they are trying to get you to call is one that charges a huge fee per minute once you connect.

Received the same call yesterday.  Same voice, obviously following a script from India.  The whole threatening tone regarding appearance before a federal "magistrate."  These calls can be very intimidating, especially to vulnerable seniors.

IRS Scam:

The IRS does not need to sue anyone.  They send you first class letters delivered by the Post Office.  Several of them.  Ignore those, and they then send certified letters that you need to sign for.  Again delivered by the Post Office.  Ignore those and they simply freeze your bank accounts and anything else you own.  If they can do that, then why would they bother with a court case that might take them years before they get in front of a judge?  They also do not bother arresting people for a few thousand dollars for the same reasons I have already given.

I received a call from (762) 383-0014  with the same recorded message as the above:
"If you did not call this number concerning the US Dept of Treasury, you will have to appear before a federal magistrate." Yes, he also had broken English.  Difficult to understand. The caller ID said it was from Augusta, GA.

Same as all of the above messages. Ridiculous scam

Where is the call coming from?

Just received the same call.  I called back 4 times because I wanted to prove to myself that this was indeed a scam.  Each person that answered the phone had horrible broken English.  Each time I asked for the specifics or to speak to a supervisor I was hung up on.  The last person I spoke to "Officer Jennfier St. George" asked for the phone # I was calling from and I gave a # that I haven't had in service in over 15 years.  She said that I owed over $6,350.00 in back taxes from 2011 and when asked how come every year since then I have received some sort of return I was told that she wasn't talking about my current taxes.  I asked for the SS# she was speaking about and was told "that's none of your business and I'm not authorized to give it out".  I was also told to "sit back and have a cup of tea because my investigating officers will be there in 45 minutes."  It has been over 45 minutes and no one has rang my bell yet.  I believe this is a total scam.  How do we protect the elderly people that receive these types of calls???

Got the call everyone above spoke about. I would be concerned about it for 2 minutes longer if it wasn't for this forum. Another swing and a miss for the bad guys! Glad that I'm not "disgruntled"!

Yes, he never says your name or the problem and end with "help us to help you". Very silly.

Also.....it would be the IRS calling....not the US Treasury.  I shudder to think what an elderly person might do if they received a call such as this.

I just got a phone call that  was from u s dept  treasury. Thank goodness I found this forum before I attempted to call the number back. I am one of those seniors that found my heart beating faster and my mind very confused and worried. What a horrible trick this is too do to people.

Received a call from this number about two hours ago.  The message was recorded and repeated three times to make sure I had their number.  The caller did speak very clear English.  The caller did not state who he was calling for but indicated that I needed to cooperate with them or go before a magistrate.  So glad I was able to check his number by reverse search.
