- Matsi| 2 repliesThey call my number looking for a guy I don't even know, they have been doing so for over a month now. I've asked them to stop and told them I don't know him, and they keep calling.
The company is a lending association, Sallie Mae, and they leave these automated messages, "This call is for 'person's name', This is 'Sallie Mae's contact', we have important information about your account, please call us back."- Caller: Sallie Mae
- Call type: Debt collector
- MaryCaller is constant and I don't know who it is.

- VSWow! How in the world did this person(s) get my number?..I have a Tracfone! I haven't turned the phone on in a while and have had 2 calls within 3 hr. I answered the 1st time and they hung up. I didn't answer the second time..I'm not going to waste my minutes-or time- on them.
- MANDYIts a company called Sallie Mae. They call my cell phone roughly 12 times a day from 8:00am cst to 9:00pm cst. They don't always leave messages, and several times a week they call me constantly for an hour or so. I am up to date on all my payments and I am not late on anything. I ask them not to call me unless it is important but they continue to harrass me. I don't know what to do and I am looking into getting a lawyer. This has to be illegal.
- Caller: Sallie Mae Lending
- Call type: Valid
- mcprx| 4 repliesit's salle mae they'll call multiple times a day if they find out you have contact to the person they are looking for. if they are calling for someone you dont know is probably someone used your number as a reference while applying for school that you barely knew, or they made up a number. the reference is just a fall back number to get a hold of you. they wont stop calling unless you change your number, the person they're trying to contact pays their debt, or if they have filed bankruptcy
they have their own collection agency- Caller: salle mae
- Call type: Debt collector
- mcprx replies to mcprxOh and it is completely legal for them to call unless you have filed bankruptcy or if they are calling a cell phone when you are being charged for their calls.
- mcprx replies to mcprx| 2 repliesOh and it is completely legal for them to call unless you have filed bankruptcy or if they are calling a cell phone when you are being charged for their calls. excellent
- tom replies to mcprx| 1 replyIt is NOT legal for them to call you IF you tell them to stop. That is harshment! If they do call again after you tell them to stop you can file a lawsuit against them for $600.00 for each call. Make sure you get a lawyer who knows about this and has handled such cases before. I finally found one and got $1,800.00 from them and it only took a couple of weeks to get it.
- Joe Bob replies to tomPLEASE do give the lawyers name and number as I am sure I am not the only one who would be happy to sue them.........please share!!
- problemsolverHere is what you do; I work for a company which charges these companies to collect debt. The company I work for is a last resort for these people because not only do we get a percentage of what we collect, but we also charge them a flat fee to do what we do. When an account becomes past due the company tries their best to contact the customer, when that doesn't work they send it to their automated debt collection department which assumes your not going to pick up based on their collection efforts (this is why it hangs up). The next step is to try and contact you again personally. If that doesn't work they will hire a collection or "skip" company. Based on the size of the debt in which they are trying to collect the collection\skip company will hire us to get the money for them, which in turn is for their client. The overwelming majority of the accounts we get are for 2 reason: The bank or lender is smart and decides to cut out the middle man, or the middle man no longer has the means to collect debt. This happens when they have recieved a cease and desist letter. When this happens they can no longer contact you over the phone and neither can we since we were hired on their behalf. There is no need for a lawyer, you can do this on your own. However, if you owe money a cease and desist letter ONLY makes the phone calls go away....there are many legal means to collect debt which does not involve the telephone, or legal action. If you do not owe money and you do not know the person they are trying to contact, you should immediately do what ever it takes to figure out why they have your number. It could be becasuse you number is very similar to who they are trying to contact and whoever entered it into their system accidentally typed it in wrong, or the person they are trying to contact made up a number when they got the loan which happens to be yours, in extreme circumstances you may be a victim of idenity theft. Just know that there IS a reason your number is being called...it's your job to figure out why.

- jay| 2 repliesI think this is a scam. I just received a phone call from the same number. This guy says he is from Sallie Mae, however, I told him that it's funny that I called Sallie Mae today and I received a recording saying they are closed for the holiday. I told him GOODBYE, and I will contact Sallie Mae tomorrow.
