Found out who this number belongs to. - 28 Jun 2007I called this place tonight...I am on the do not call list like others so I am not sure how they received my number...it is also my cell number.
But, what I did find out was after blocking my number by using the *67, I was on hold and waited until I got the message of who it is.

The best thing that I found to do to these people if they call your land line phone is to let them start their speal and then just put the phone down. They seem to get the hint and hang up.

concerned - 5 Nov 2008If it is USAFunds calling you, then the worste thing you could do is either hang up, or give the phone to your kid! They are a branch under U.S. Dept of Education. This means that you have a Federal Loan (i.e. Stafford loan, or Parent Loan) which you are getting ready to default on. Eventually, when you do default, they can put a lein on you through the IRS, plus process you for wage garnishment (by the way, they do not notify you of this....you just quit getting almost 20% of your gross pay!). Plus, they automatically tack on 19% of your total loan to cover their "legal" and "collection" fees. On top of this, they send you to a collection agency that works with government loans (which means your screwed). Lesson learned...talk to them while you can, there are tons of options! I wish I would have known about all this earlier, before racking up over $2,000 in default fees, and getting money directly taken out of my paycheck.

Bookwyrm - 1 Aug 2007I've been getting these alot lately as well. Like alot of other people, if I don't know the number I won't answer it and they never leave messages.
And yes, I do have Sallie Mae loans but i'm also getting calls from them but they DO leave messages.
They only seem to call really early in the morning (around 8am PST) or really late at night (8 to 9PM PST).
