Someone out there should know if they can do this within Georgia law. We have entered into a CCCS agreement and are $100 dollars from being done with all bills. We made sure that ALL medical bills were included in teh plan and all have been paid. Im checking my credit report to find out if they are reporting unpaid or collections when everyone has been paid. I know a lot of dr's offices get solicited to sell their "Bad Debt" to these companies for pennies on the dollar. They then make a profit by collecting the full amount from you, the doctor never sees the full amount unless you make payment plans with them directly. dont respond to these people and dont call them back. Instead call the doctors office and offer to enter a short or long term repayment plan. Also try credit counseling as I did. When HONEST creditors such as doctors, etc know you are working to make things right they are very willing to help. If they seem reluctant tell them, "I know that if you send me to collections you wont get the full amount because they will keep a portion. I am offering to pay you the amount I owe, but it will take some time. I am prepared to make my first payment of X dollars now, can we work somethign out?" I doubt you will find a heartless person on the other end of the line when you are honest and sincere. As for the "color" of the caller, it doesnt matter White, Black, Mexican, Asian, etc. Generally these people get paid by what they collect, and when its their money on the line they will hound you relentlessly and not adhere to the law. They bounce form job to job and if you do file a complaint that gets anywhere they will just quit and go someplace else. Finally, dont answer the phone or let your answering machine get it. If you do their computers can tell the line is "HOT" and will continue calling. If you choose to not do any of the above then use a fax machine to answer the call, it will throw their machine off balance and it will think the line is a "Dead Line" like the call zappers did. Good luck.
