Scottlawusa.com.  Collections efforts of a threatening nature.  I thought this junk was illegal?  I will worry about them when I am served, and not before.  Slimeballs.

Received  a call stating that they are a law company and that I owe over 400.00 for a payday loan. I never had such a loan. Claimed that if I did not pay today they were taking me to court and have me put in jail for fraud!

They called with an auto message saying I'd be investigated for a bunch of charges including theft by deception. I called back and the guy answered with, "Law office!" I started laughing and asked for info. He said I took out a loan in 2011 and paid for two months before stopping. I told him that wasn't true and if he's a legit company he can send me something in the mail. I looked up the website of Sean Scott Law Office. The website was opened in 2015 and is pretty threadbare (although the do have a text copy of the auto message-lol). I looked up the street address listed on the website and guess what? There's no evidence of a law office being there.  They've used the address of a strip mall, I think.

This is a scam. Do not worry about these "You're going to jail" calls. I've been getting them for over three years now.

Total debt collection scam.  They are not an attorney firm.  They are basically debt collectors who are not following the law.  Being in ordinary civil debt is not a crime and you cannot be arrested for it.  Defaulting on a payday loan is not a crime.

Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

    1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
    2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
    3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  DIME  until the debt is validated.

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.

    If they are bothering you,

    Report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection  (Threatening criminal prosecution to collect a civil debt is a clear violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Act)

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money,  tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  You might have to yell at the scammer and talk over him or her.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them .

I have never been called Thief . Yes I have debt issues but I'm following the law on this, but I know a scam when I see one. I have been getting calls, but each time they a different number. So if you call any number you should get the same caller. I agree for that real law firm knows who you are, they have done their research, and they will contact you by mail, So looking for a change in their operation is worth your time.

SEAN SCOTT AND ASSOCIATES LAW FIRM
    Posted in:  https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-773-270-8228
Web site lists them as a law firm, in Chicago, but the demand for payment letter they have posted on their web site seems to ignore the FDCPA regulations on what it should contain:
    http://www.scottlawusa.com/index.php
No BBB page found, no corporate registration found.
Whois.com shows the web site as having been up on several months:

A search of the Wacker Dr.  address listed on the web site turns up several attorneys and other businesses, but no Sean Scott.
So this so called “law firm” is looking really, really shady right about now.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
Read up on your rights here, get template letters to send and also make a complaint at this government site: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint here:  http://www.iardc.org/howtorequest.html

} demand for payment letter .... seems to ignore the FDCPA

It's awkwardly written puffery and has one non-sentence. A few lines I find potentially misleading. I'm confused most by the "agreement" language, almost turning the letter into a contract of adhesion. Any agreement regarding collection costs is already in the lender contract anyway, assuming a valid debt. This would never fly as a G-letter, but it reads in fairness like a "big hammer" follow-on after prior contacts fail to inspire payment. Of course, the most glaring violation would be the false representation that this came from a real law firm rather than thugs with a window-dressed website.

Nothing on BBB that I can find.
No Sean Scott listed with Illinois Bar at that address. That I can find.
No Sean Scott and Associates Law Firm at that address .
My suspicion is that this "Sean Scott and Associates Law Firm" is a
zombie organization, possibly using some sort of mail drop but working out
    of another location.
[Please note:  This is NOT the Sean T. Scott  of Mayer Brown LLP-- that Scott is legitimate and  has an impressive history.  See: https://www.mayerbrown.com/people/Sean-T-Scott/]

    Ignore and block these calls.

I guess it would depend on when the letter was sent.  My gut feeling is that this is what they send out instead of the G letter.  If so, it makes no mention of the fact that the alleged debtor can request debt validation within 30 days of receiving that letter.  It also seems a bit threatening in that they mention twice about pursuit through legal channels and court costs, etc. The "law firm" part is intimidating as well as illegal as they don't seem to be attorneys.

This number texted my phone. Sounded fishy from the get.  I work in a hospital and they do not uneed any circumstance give out personal information on anyone. Patient or employee. I'll leave the message below.

"Hello, how are you? I'm Daniel Flint, I got your contact from work directory and i'm willing to offer you a duty . My offer is $450 weekly. get back to me via email    danielflint1803@gmail.com  for more details about the job.
    Thanks
    Daniel"

To which I responded: "I'm good. What work directory? And what is the "duty"? "

Their reply: "Email me so i can tell you more about detials about the job"

My response to which I did not hear anything further: "Excuse me for being skeptical. I would just like to know how you got my contact information before I feel comfortable giving you anymore of it. "

As soon as I got through the first message the grammar totally sent up the first red flag.
