I got a call/message from a Chad Edwards.  I was to call 773-293-6978 to discuss the details of my prize.  I call and all I get is a answering machine.  Scam?

Got the same thing - Chad Edwards wants me to call him back because I supposedly submitted an email to them and my name came up to win one of 4 prizes worth well over $500 as part of a "state-registered contest".  No details about me or them were mentioned in the machine message they left.

Received voice-mail today with the same prize msg. and this call back number for Chad Edwards.  Did not call back.  Obviously it's a scam.  Are there authorities you can report this to.  Seems unusual that you can actually get the guy's listing from google, but I found it too.  Maybe someone is playing a joke on poor Chad and his phone is going to be ringing off the hook!

Received same call -- an e/m contest and I'd won a prize.  "It is in your best interest to call me immediately.  Chad Edwards."

Probably a scam especially at this time of year.  I would certanly not give this guy any personal information!

I got the same call, saying I'd won one of four prizes worth over $500.  I spoke to someone purporting to be Chad Edwards.  When I asked him to send me something in writing explaining the details, he said, "Well, we don't put anything in writing."  That was pretty much all I needed to know about ole Chad.

If you get a call from this guy, call the Secret Service!  (NOT the FBI or the FCC) at 312-353-5431 (Chicago office).

If they get ENOUGH complaints they may take action.  The fact that this phone number has been involved in this scam for so long (I've seen complaints back to November of last year) indicates they must be avoiding the long arm of the law SOME-HOW. If THAT doesn't work at the very least, report them to the FCC for vioation of the telephone consumer protection act and/or the Do Not Call registery if you are on it.

1/28/08 2:34 PM MT - I got a call on my voice mail (does not record ID, just date/time) - like the others here, it said I have "---won - blah, blah, blah," and should call Chad Edwards at 1-773-293-6978.  www.search.live.com says the phone number belongs to a Wilburt Hayes in Chicago.  My Zip-Zap (Area Code and zip code locating) program says the area code is AMF Ohare, IL. I also found another page like this one where the same scam is being reported.  I contacted the FCC to report telemarketing calls to my cell phone (illegal in itself - plus I am on the Do Not Call national registry) and (after SEVERAL days) was directed to a website: https://esupport.fcc.gov/form1088/consumer.do where I supposedly would have to file a complaint on their "official" form (if you try it, be sure to click the "next" button - there are two pages to complete.  SNAFU, the web site didn't work for me - said the dates and times I input were incorredt (NOT! but I DID have the wrong date at the very bottom - I put the incident date where it was looking for the CURRENT date - why the form  could not auto-insert that is typical government stupidity - and THAT may have screwed things up - maybe they track my IP address because I even closed out, cleared all cookies, etc, and tried again - three attempts in all).  When I emailed back to the FCC complaining about the delays, the PDF back end run, (they sent me a pdf file with the link to the web site - instead of just putting the link in the email) and the defective website, I was told to contact the Secret Service about the Nigerian scam.  HUH?  Who said it was a nigerian scam?  From what I've learned, it's an identity theft ploy - "You have won" but must pay an up front "processing fee" - where they probably empty your bank account or drain your credit card once they have the numbers.  The Nigerian Banking Scam may be simular to this one - The con artists ask you to send money to bribe officials or pay processing fees, etc. ect., and then they keep bleeding you with one excuse after another until you get wise or go broke and go away.  Because the Nigeian scam is usually across international borders, you are usually stuck with the loss (if you are stupid/greedy enough to get sucked in) but THIS scam is apparently being run out of Chicago and you can report the crime to the local officials - but the number may actually be a pay phone at Ohare International Airport for all I can tell.

Another site where this Chad Edwards is being reported is:
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/archive/index.php/index.php?t-122886.html
Apparently "Chad Edwards" is no longer providing the 1-800-813-8202 call back number - final note:  "Chad Edwards" is probably a phoney name anyway but if real, it is possible that HE is the vitim of someone ELSE.  This would be a GREAT way to harass someone you took a dislike to.  Go to a pay phone, call random numbers with a scam and give them the other guy's number to call back. - - POW! Right in the KISSER! (You have to be old enough to remember Jackie Gleason saying that to appreciate it.)
