they left a message saying that somebody had been in an accident in a Cook Co. highway and my number was their emergency number, they gave another phony number to call a "Sgt. Smith". I contacted the police dept. and they say that they wanted to get my info to be able to charge international phone calls to my number, advised me to contact my phone company to block all collect calls, an other calls not made from my home phone.

I'm a copper and I received a call from the number and it seems extremely weird to me. First of all, calls from prison are usually collect, so it wouldn't say where the caller was actually from. Also, I have no one in my family who would be calling me from prison. It's also been three weeks and nobody said anything. It also is very vague, wouldn't it say which prison. Seems like a scam to me.
