Received a short, vague, uninterpretable message

received a call from  773-668-1630 (caller ID Chicago)
asked if this was  (name) if so then press 1. If I think you received this call in error please call back at 888-249-4134. The voice seems very friendly
I blocked my # and called back.I received a recording." thank you for calling "Merchants credit guide!"

left a message for someone named tyrone and stated that since we did not press a number we were acknowledging we were that person.  I called the number back and told them i did not know that person. and then they said you don't know so and so or (my name) I said that's my name but i don't know a tyrone and she claimed that was for a previous file. (which was an obvious lie). Do not call them back for any reason. They are using deceptive practices to collect on old debts that are past the statute of limitations.

Two calls from this number on consecutive days.  First one I hung up before caller came on line because I could tell it was an automated call.  Second time, out of curiosity, I waited for caller to pickup.  She asked for my son who has not lived here for two years.  I did not give a new number for him.  It has been at least two years  since we last got calls from that number looking for him. At that time I told them I didn't want to receive any more of their calls to my number.  They are trying to collect a pre-divorce account from 1993 that has long been written off.

No one answered. These calls scare my 82 year old mother in law to death.
She is hard of hearing and is alone by herself during the day while my wife and I are at work.

Sometimes, I call these numbers back and have success getting our phone number off their lists. This one however, is a long distance call and I refuse to PAY to get my number of their stinkin list!!!

They called again today and mom answered. My wife and I were not home but at work. Mom though about pushing her "Emergency Alert" button she wears around her neck.

I guess I will have to get an entirely new phone number, this time an UNLISTED one.

What ever happened to the right to privacy?

My sister got the call(Iused to live with her)..Asked for me,said he was an old friend,tried to get info about me, she was too smart for that! very shady practice if you ask me!

got call had a realy odd ring(it was very long) didn't answer left no message I found this website when i googled the number. so i added it to my call rejection list

Rcvd this number on caller id.  Did a google, which is the smartest thing to do, and found this site.  Glad I didn't call it back.  Have had a problem with collections calling about debts over 11 years ago.

I have no idea who called.  The DO NOT CALL LIST is WORTHLESS (JUST MORE POLITICAL "SMOKE & MIRRORS.  I have even contacted the Chicago Better Business Bureau, but received no answer.

I've been getting these calls for a long time. ID indicates Mercy Home.  I looked up Mercy Home but their phone # is different.  Then I 'googled' the number & sure enough all these people have the same problem.  Thanks guys for letting me know.

We've gotten umpteen calls from this number of the last couple of weeks, but in the past there wasn't anything there.  This time, it was an automated call looking for my wife's ex about a credit card bill from 1991 or so.  If you let the recording go on, it gives 888-249-4134 to call "if you think you received this call in error."  I called that back and they said they would remove our number.  Time will tell.

badgering call on supposed debt from years ago, from my son who doesn't live with me.

This number calls all times of the morning and night..It just shows up on the caller id chicago,illinois. I never answer the phone...Anyone who calls at such disrespectful times is illegal..BEWARE!!!!

Receive calls from this number night and day-I don't answer and they leave no message.

I received a call for this number; I called the number back and asked why they called me.  She asked me what my phone number was and she told me the were looking for "Beary ____(and my last name)".  That is my ex-husband's dog!  I told her it was his dog and that I did not think she could speak.  She told me that is who they are looking for and I told her never to call again.  Sounds like a scam!

Always a recording even when answered, asks for someone - sounds like Debbie O Dillon - message says to hang up if it isn't you.  Doesn't matter, they still call back.  Used to come from an 800 #, I called it back once to get them to stop calling, only got recording, no real person.  This has been going on for over a year.  How do I get them to stop?????

Are you still getting calls?  I called that number to report I wasn't the person they were looking for, only received a recorded message.  They've been calling for over a year, but never heard from a real person.  The person they're asking for doesn't exist in my world, not an ex spouse, pet, nothing.

I signed up for a number through Googles Grand Central service, and after reading these messages, i can only assume Google assigned me the old number of somebody who owed some debt.  The call is forwarded to me via Google, hiding my number behind the assigned number.  This is to prevent anyone from getting my actual number that I don't want to have it.  (Great service, you should try it!)
